It's a huge month for crossover books...that always pulls the average down, unfortunately.

Most books aren't at $3.99. At least, not most that were at 2.99 the month before. A handful of Marvels, maybe.

Edit: Actually, ICV2's analysis piece says that comics sales were *up* in December, compared to November. Although they were down compared to December 2007, but really, so were sales on *everything*.

Joe Quesada should get down on his hands and knees and thank Barack Obama for helping him sell Amazing Spiderman. The sales are so bad its hard to look.

The book without Obama would be hitting the 50,000 range by Jan.

Sales at the bottom of the chart are much stronger than in November though.

What's the difference since 97? They seem pretty much the same.

Yeah and if you notice I believe its yet another varient issue. I believe the fanbase has finally started to wear down on varients that Marvel does. The Obama one is a last chance shot before 600 to gain some readers to the book.

Each thing they have tried with big story-arcs , hyped creative teams and new hyped characters (Anti-Venom) has not worked. Nothing can stop the trend downwards. As we read the Obama issue in my LCS we all joked "Ok this is it ...its still fucking terrible."

I bolded the part I thought was most important. The thing is that seems to be comics as a whole, not just Spider-Man.
The monster saved them all. And in their fear, they betrayed him. As they always have. As they always will.

With Spiderman there doesn't seem to be a level spot. Where sales for a title like Cable & Deadpool would land at 26,000-28,000 a month in that range. And hell.... some hyped story-arc/crossovers do add a sales bump to a book. For a C & D , following Civil War they got a 5,000 sales bump 2+ years ago.

For a Spiderman the best Marvel can pray for is if speculators and everyone reads the Obama issue ...that 5,000-10,000 sticks to stop the damage.

You're missing the point I was making. Comic sales as a whole are shrinking. You can't just say "Spider-Man is failing because of One More Day" when sales are down on everything.
