    Default Ion - Kyle Ryner

I recently read the Ion series and though iit started slow and meaningless it ended well. This series is why Kyle would always be my fav lantern and among my top comic characters.

I read the sinetro corps so I understand why he went through what he did but i forgot the monitors role in the battle. Also did Kyle relinquish his torchbearer role during his defeat during the corps storyline? Because he is so ordinary.

Also with everything that happen to Kyle...he seems to be taking it well. Oh and the guy needs another series!
    :o
Our dilemma is that we hate change and love it at the same time; what we really want is for things to remain the same but get better.

Kyle had the Ion power stripped away from him during the Sinestro Corps war, where it was revealed that Ion was actually a giant green space whale thing (sort of a counterpart to Parallax's role for the Sinestro Corps.)

The Ion power was merged to Sodom Yat before his fight with Superboy-Prime during the Sinestro Corps. It's currently the only thing preventing Yat from dying from the lead poisoning he got during that fight.

    ^^^
    What he said.

But Kyle's not just an "ordinary" GL anymore, either. He was promoted to the Green Lantern Honor Guard to partner with Guy Gardner.

I like Kyle but lately he seems to be kind of generic. Kyle's whole thing was that he was the regular guy who also had a regular life. Doing his artist thing and going to Radu's and doing other stuff around New York. Now, he's always playing space cop and he seems like almost every other GL, other than being in the Honor Guard. There's got to be some way of bringing out more of his personality while he's out there working in space.

I agree with AdamYJ, Kyle is so boring in space. He needs to return to Earth and interact with a supporting cast. He's not a character who works in space. Really, he and John Stewart should switch plays and John should move to Oa and Kyle should return to Earth.

Maybe. I think they should just show him doing more stuff during his downtime. His whole artist thing. He could paint an alien landscape or something. Or maybe have him play around with making ring constructs like he did in his early days. How do you suppose Salaak and the Guardians would react to someone using the ring to create detailed constructs for fun? Kyle used to be a fun, relatable, wisecracking guy who was always in his head thinking and sorting things out. Lately, he comes across like Hal always used to. The super-serious "man-of-action".

He has been in space a little too long anyway. The people in his building are probably wondering where he's gone. Even his "Super-Friends" probably haven't seen him in a long time. Wally's kids probably don't know who he is, even though Kyle and Wally used to be buds. Connor Hawke went through the whole coma thing while Kyle was in space and probably doesn't even remember who Kyle is. Lately, I'm kind of thinking he's burying himself in his Corps work so he won't have to deal with any regular people after he lost his Mom and Jennie.

That is the exact reason why he left Earth for Oa, to get away from it all until he could sort it all out.

Well, he's got to get over it and set foot back on terra firma for a while. He has this problem with losing people, but now he could just be losing friends back home and not know it.

I mean, did anyone ever tell him that Connor was in that coma? Or that he's back out and . . . not quite the same? It still bothers me that GA/BC went through that whole storyline and Kyle never showed up (I reall liked those old Kyle and Connor team-ups from the '90s).

I liked them too but I like Kyle in space as well, I like to see something different happen to the characters now and then, if we just have the same old story of Kyle getting himself in trouble on Earth again and again and again.

I wish Kyle still has his own book as well. It's nice that he's the co-lead in GLC, but as others have pointed out, it doesn't leave a lot of room for character growth, or even characterization for that matter.

It feels like part of Kyle is getting lost in the process. Still, at least it's better treatment then got in Countdown. He was practically unrecognizable in that series.

I thought the same thing. The first few issues weren't that great, but I thought it got a lot better as it went on. I'm hoping that Kyle does get his own title again, maybe as an Earth-based Blue Lantern.
