Default So why is it a big deal that Obama was on a Spider-Man cover?

Honestly, I just don't get it.

there were news stories today with people lined up around the corner at the comics shops to pick up the comic yesterday.

are they speculating it will be worth money?

I'm an Obama fan, I voted for him, had the Obama/Biden sign up in our yard, and I think he'll be a fantastic President.

But I couldn't care less that he "met" Spider-Man.

    what am I missing here?

Is he the first "real" president to be featured in a big-name comic, maybe?

ILYA(my friend): Obama's gonna get assasinated.

ME: He can't be. He was in a comic with Spider-Man.

    ILYA: Are you serious?

    ME: Yup.

ILYA: I hate this fucking country.

People bought shirts with Obama on them, buttons and so forth, why not comics?

John F Kennedy was in an issue of Superman before, if memory serves.

I attribute it to the odd, obsessive, stalkery, would-be-boyfriend/girlfriend coverage of the non-political aspects of Obama.

Walking shirtless on the beach? Let's cover that. His kids are going to school? Let's cover that. He met Spider-Man? He collects Thor comics? What kind of dog are they getting? What did he eat? He doesn't like ice cream? Does he like me or like-me-like-me?

I've noticed that there is a lot of J-14-ish coverage of Obama and his family.
