"Walking dead" is a real treat, and I'm glad that you finally gave it a chance.
It's interesting that you mention a couple of "Vertigo" titles, considering that nowadays, most of the books that would feel right at home in "Vertigo" 10 years ago, are actually published elsewhere, while "Vertigo" struggles with titles that fail to catch on. Excepting "Scalped" and "Northlanders", "Vertigo" has to be jealous of the success Image's "Walking dead", or even IDW's "Locke and the key" has had, following generally in the same broad direction once characteristic of "Vertigo" comics.
Great Read as usual, Tim. I am now compelled to check out the Walking Dead, which I admit to never having been before.
One reason I never bothered to pick it up in trade or single issue is the fact that it's black and white. I have always had an adversity to reading black and white comics though I cannot truly explain where that may come from.
Everyone in my life remotely versed in the comic medium has recommended this book to me, but I have always avoided it.
Based on this column I think I am ready to take the plunge and actually pick up the trades. And for that I thank you!
