Variety reported Wednesday that Mickey Rourke, the star of Darren Aronofsky's
"The Wrestler" and Frank Miller & Robert Rodriguez's "Sin City," is in talks with
Marvel Studios to appear as a Russian villain in "Iron Man 2."

Who's he going to be, The Crimson Dynamo?

If so, and if that's the major villain, I don't like the idea much......I'd rather see a wider variety of villains, rather than similar-to-the-hero armor-clad adversaries.

I totally disagree. He has a great rogue's gallery... just not a very diverse one.

    Lots of other armored guys.

Rockwell as Justin Hammer is awesome. Rourke as Dynamo or Whiplash... ehh not so much.

Rockwell as Hammer is cool, Rourke is a good actor, but the character isn't that appealing. I hope Favreau delves more into the Mandarin, rather than just the vague hints we got in the first film.

Why can't they make Mandarin the prime villain for the sequel given that he was hinted at in the original? As Iron Man's arch-nemesis and most well known villian, wouldn't he be the most logical choice?

Both guys are solid actors so I think it's great they are involved. The minute I heard Rockwell's name I was hoping he was playing Hawkeye though. I heard Hawkeye and Black Widow were suppose to be Shield Agents in this one.

    He is.

"Favreau confirmed that Iron Man’s longtime nemesis, The Mandarin, will be a major villain in the franchise, though the character’s magic-based rings and the abilities they provided would likely need some tweaks to fit comfortably in the high-tech world established by the first film. He also hinted that Mandarin might not appear on-screen until the third film, in order to preserve some of the mystery and threat surrounding the Asian crime lord. The Mandarin’s presence was teased in the first film when a reference was made to the terrorist cell “Ten Rings” — though Favreau said he’s struggling with the proper way to follow through on this hint and bring the character into the world of the first film."

I think they are saving him for the third movie. And he was barely hinted in the last movie. They could build him up a little bit.

Because "Yellow Peril" villains went out of style a couple generations ago?

Also, Torpor is right. Iron Man has Mandarin and Crimson Dynamo OR Titanium man, take your pick, and that's it.

That answeres my question quite nicely. Thanks for clearing that up. Should they really use another armored villian, though? Does he have more skin and flesh baddies to fight? Or at least one not incased in metal?

I think it comes down to how they handle the characterization of the villain and his relationship to the main character. As long as he is significantly different than Bridge's Stane, I don't have a problem with the villain being high-tech. Just because he is armored doesn't mean that it will be a retread of Iron Monger.

It would be cool if Iron Man sparks a kind of strange arms race, which leads to the development of Crimson Dynamo. Justin Hammer is a cool addition, but again, they just have to be careful not to make him a retread of the Stane's evil businessman status. We don't want too much repetition. But it was character and actor chemistry that drove the success of the last movie, and I think if they hold to that this should be just as good. Rourke and Rockwell are great actors (as well as Cheadle), and I think the pedigree for this movie will be as strong as the last.

BTW I hope every dude in this movie rocks a moustache.

Maybe Burt Reynolds can play Tony's dad.
