Who's he going to be, The Crimson Dynamo?
If so, and if that's the major villain, I don't like the idea much......I'd rather see a wider variety of villains, rather than similar-to-the-hero armor-clad adversaries.
Rockwell as Hammer is cool, Rourke is a good actor, but the character isn't that appealing. I hope Favreau delves more into the Mandarin, rather than just the vague hints we got in the first film.
Both guys are solid actors so I think it's great they are involved. The minute I heard Rockwell's name I was hoping he was playing Hawkeye though. I heard Hawkeye and Black Widow were suppose to be Shield Agents in this one.
He is.
"Favreau confirmed that Iron Man’s longtime nemesis, The Mandarin, will be a major villain in the franchise, though the character’s magic-based rings and the abilities they provided would likely need some tweaks to fit comfortably in the high-tech world established by the first film. He also hinted that Mandarin might not appear on-screen until the third film, in order to preserve some of the mystery and threat surrounding the Asian crime lord. The Mandarin’s presence was teased in the first film when a reference was made to the terrorist cell “Ten Rings” — though Favreau said he’s struggling with the proper way to follow through on this hint and bring the character into the world of the first film."

I think it comes down to how they handle the characterization of the villain and his relationship to the main character. As long as he is significantly different than Bridge's Stane, I don't have a problem with the villain being high-tech. Just because he is armored doesn't mean that it will be a retread of Iron Monger.
It would be cool if Iron Man sparks a kind of strange arms race, which leads to the development of Crimson Dynamo. Justin Hammer is a cool addition, but again, they just have to be careful not to make him a retread of the Stane's evil businessman status. We don't want too much repetition. But it was character and actor chemistry that drove the success of the last movie, and I think if they hold to that this should be just as good. Rourke and Rockwell are great actors (as well as Cheadle), and I think the pedigree for this movie will be as strong as the last.
BTW I hope every dude in this movie rocks a moustache.
Maybe Burt Reynolds can play Tony's dad.
