Default The Persona RPG, Chapter One: Be Your True Mind

Welcome to Cyrene City. Strange things have been happening here. There have been sightings of bizarre animals and mysterious crimes, stories of random people going mad or falling into deep comas. While the incidents are still infrequent and sporadic, they seem to be oddly increasing. A palpable tension seems to blanket the city.

This night, however, something happens that will change the lives of your characters forever. This night, they dream of a small, hunchbacked man with a long nose named Igor, who tells them of a power that dwells within. He tells them that a strange darkness is creeping over their world. That a unknowable Light once held back the darkness, but it seems to be fading away… and so then, the darkness encroaches.

Igor extends his hand to you, and you feel something… different. And then, someone knew enters your dream vision. You see a being, one you cannot recall ever seeing before, but whom you instantly feel very familiar with.

Igor tells you that this is your Persona. The Persona is a part of you, a reflection of your true being, which holds within it, a fragment of the Light. Igor says that since the Light is faded, it is up to you hold back the darkness. And so saying, he bids you farewell. And you awaken. It is still night time, in the early hours of the morning…

    ================================================== ====

Yun Lao/Trenton Cassiday – You awaken in the hospital, next to your sister. As you look to her with sad eyes, you notice something you never saw before. A sort of shadow, lying across her chest. Checking around, you see no obvious source of the shadow, and yet there it is, plain as day. You look harder. And as you do, the shadow seems to shimmer. All of sudden, the air feels unnaturally still. You look around and see that the colors of the world are slightly faded. You look back and see something that makes you lurch back. A being of pure darkness, about the size of a small dog, is sitting on your sisters chest. It is a four-legging thing, and what seems like it should be its head seems to be literally buried in her chest. Suddenly, it twitches, and raises its head out, revealing two round, glowing yellow eyes and mouth like a lamprey. It slowly turns to you, and after a moment, it hisses. Then it lunges!

Challenge: Kill the shadowkin! It is about the size of a Welsh Corgi, but has wicked claws that cut like knives. It has a rounded mouth filled with razor sharp teeth. It’s not that tough, but it is rather quick. Kill it before it kills you!

Froggy/Quincy Stalworth – You seemed to have fallen asleep while working on an art project in the school art room. Shaking yourself awake after your strange dream, you start to tidy up to go back to your dorm room. However, you hear something like a chattering sound around you. You look up, to see various paintings left behind by other students. One, in particular, a rather poorly redone version of the “American Gothic” painting, seems to e shaking. Suddenly, the old man and woman tear themselves from the picture, and attack you, hissing crazily!
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Gothic

Challenge: Destroy the two figures! They are shadow-possessed objects. Although still 2-dimensional, they have human strength and speed, albeit those of a man and woman in their prime, betraying their elderly appearance. The old man wields a pitch fork.

Ptrvc/Travis Coates – After your dream, you take a walk through the nearby bike trail, mulling things over. While on the path, you cross a bridge over a creek, but as you do, you hear something rustling beneath. Ignoring it at first, you hear a shout. You look up, just in time to see something crawl up the creek bank and block your path on the other side of the bridge. It looks like homeless person, at first, in ragged clothes and messy hair. But then, you notice something strange. His eyes, seem to be glowing. With an unearthly snarl, he lunges at you, a rock in his hand poised to strike!

Challenge: Defeat the strange man! He is shadow-possessed, and if you manage to beat him down, the shadow will be forced to flee, after which you can try to destroy the shadow.

The MunchKING!/Munch King – Upon waking up, you hear something rustling around your room. Annoyed, you look up to see one of your video games suddenly fly off a shelf and plop down onto the floor. You notice its your copy of Final Fantasy Origins. You also notice it appears to be “steaming” a dark vapor. Suddenly, a form leaps up, as if from inside the disk! A Final Fantasy 1 Imp, dual wielding knives, cackles and lunges at you!

Challenge: Destroy the Imp! It is a shadow-kin construct taken from the game, but is slightly tougher than you’d expect an imp to be.

Demon King Psycho/Daniel Craze – You wake up from falling asleep to reading a book. You open your eyes, and nearly scream as you see what appears to be a huge black spider on the ceiling right above you. This spider has been blown up to horror-movie proportions, with its body alone being about the size of a house cat, and its legs proportionally enlarged. It appears to be a brown recluse spider, and its six eyes are glowing. Giving just enough time to be shocked fully awake, it drops down upon you!

Challenge: Kill the spider! It is a shadow-possessed and mutated monstrosity. It lacks the brown recluses venom and webs, but has the proportionate strength increase of its size.

Tami/Teresa Anne Weir – You gasp awake, and realize after a moment, that you can hear screaming. Dashing to your window, you look outside, and see what appears to be a young man attacking a young woman. You at first think to call the police, but the man suddenly seems to notice your watching. He looks up at you, and grins, his eyes flashing. You find yourself compelled to intervene, because you just know the police will be too late.

Challenge: Defeat the man! He is shadow-possessed, and is wielding a butterfly knife. Beating him down will force the shadow out, after which you can try to destroy the shadow.

God of Awesome/Daemon Charmer – Daemon awakens and finds himself restless, going for a walk. As he walks, though, he keeps thinking he sees small figures darting out from beyond his vision. Fearing his hallucinations are returning, Daemon, stops and leans against a wall to reorient himself. All of a suddenly, he hears a laughing, and he whirls. He sees what appears to be a seven foot tall man made completely of shadow, his limbs and torso literally thin as broomsticks. The man has an overly large, horned head, and large bat-like wings. It advances upon Daemon, and he realizes that this is NOT an illusion.

Challenge: Defeat the devilish shadow! It has sharp nails and teeth, and can fly. It otherwise, has human-level stats, but beware is quick reflexes and long reach.

LordKaos/Felix Daniels – You’ve been seeing them for a while now, but you did not know what they were. On this night, you are fleeing the shadowy figures that chase you from the corners of your eyes, whispering to you in creaking, dead voices. You round a corner into an alley, but slip and fall, crashing to the ground, hitting your head hard enough to knock you out briefly. In this unconscious state, you dream of Igor, and your Persona awakens. With a flash of power, you are conscious again, your Persona glowing before you, you can see the shadows more clearly… several of them seem to sink away, but one stays. The man-shaped shadow steps towards you slowly, and its face seems to lighten, and shimmer. It continues to do so, until a familiar face peeks through the darkness. Like a living mask, the face of Calvin grins hideously at you. It taunts you as it advances, and you feel your back hit the wall. The world shits to grey around you as the shadow grins wider…

Challenge: Destroy the shadowkin! It wears the face of your former friend, and taunts you with strangely accurate memories of your time as friends. Do to let it fool you, or you will fall victim to its maddening taunts. It has human-level stats, and attacks with its fists.

Lemmiwinks/Ridley McNeal – It’s your shift at the firehouse tonight, and as you wake up early, pondering your dream, you decide to get some of the day’s duties started early, since you doubt you’ll be able to sleep now. As you head to the garage, you hear a scuffling sound. You walk around the engine and stop short as you see what appears to be a black fireman’s helmet hovering in the air, and below it and to the left is a large wrench, also hovering. These objects move forward, as if being worn and held by an invisible man. The helmet and wrench stop short, though, and then turn. In that instant, the world shifts to grey, and a shadowy figure fills the space between the helmet, wrench, and the floor. It pauses, as if waiting for something, but when you start to move, and it launches itself at you, swinging the wrench in a frenzied manner.

Challenge: Destroy the shadowkin! It is actually possessing the helmet, so you’ll need to destroy that to get rid of the shadow. It has the stats of a physically fit human.

You realize a mish-mash of your own theater costumes has assmebled before you, and is moving of its own accord, like a patch-work suit worn by an invisible man. Travis falls to the ground, unable to reach his hatched and knife in time. This is it, I can't save myself he thinks, If only Duke were here.

But Travis doesn't feel the rock smash into him, instead he looks up and notices the figure in front of him being harried by a large black dog, biting at its ankles, and arms, before locking its jaw around the figures arm and bringing it to the ground. The dog, looked at Travis before fading away.

"Duke?" asked Travis before pulling out his hatchet and knife and approaching the man. How am I supposed to take this guy out, he's obviously insane, and if I'm seeing my old dog, I might be too.

Clark believed that under the circumstances, it was understandable that he didn't do much but watch at first. Firmly rooted in the rational, his mind sadly had yet to make the connection between this amazing spectacle and the odd dream he'd just awoken from. He assumed this was some sort of prank, perhaps a bit of revenge orchestrated by the fellows down at the play house? If so, he was astounded. He'd seen a lot of the tricks employed to produce stunning theatrical effect, yet he'd seen nothing like it in his life. If anything, he was actually rather annoyed he hadn't come up with it; it beat the hell out of replacing a girl's facial treatment with cold oatmeal. It was only when he finally noticed the gleaming rapier in this figure's hand that he was rudely snapped out of his ruminations.

"Hey, now. Fun's fun, but I should know, that thing's-"

The interruption was just as understandable. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted the tall glass display case in the corner of his room. The tall glass display case in which his own bell hilt rapier was still housed. More perplexed than ever, he turned back to the intruder, finding himself staring into a malevolent looking pair of glowing yellow eyes.

    "...sharp?"

Sadly, this shadowkin as he'd hopefully, eventually learn to call it was not interested in conversation, as he learned to his alarm when the duplicate rapier suddenly lashed out, the barely dodged thrust leaving a shallow but painful cut just above his left eye. And his attacker wasn't content to leave it at that, following up with a series of lightning quick slashes which the reeling Clark only just barely managed to stay ahead of. It was only when the fiend went for a very lethal lunge that the shocked thesbian finally caught a break. There was only so much room in here, after all, to swing a sword around, and as Clark stumbled back against the wall, the blade buried itself in the wall.

Looking around with a speed born of desperation, his eyes hit upon a small book shelf affixed to the wall within arm's reach. The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. Good enough. Snatching it up off the shelf while the shadowkin yanked to free the blade, Clark took a hold of the heavy tome, and swung with all his might at the, uh...well, there was no head, per se, but he aimed for the floppy black Renaissance style hat, which ideally would send the creature reeling, allowing Clark to rush for the display case and retrieve his own blade.

"What are you, and what do you want from me?"

Heh, i never thought my work would be the death of me LIKE this.........

Just then, a cartoonish voice is heard as two green hands grab the old couple. "HEheheeh DOODLE to the rescue!" is heard from Quincy's art tray, as Doodle smashes the old couples heads together, KO'ing them.

"Hehehe... Hahahaha!!! Back for more!? BACK FOR MORE!?" Daemon screams at the beast. His eyes dart around, looking for a weapon. He spot a crowbar on the ground and snatched it.

"Come on! Come on!" Daemon taunts the creature, thinking partly that it's an hallucination but still realizing it can hurt him and he it.

He charges the beast, tackling it around its thin waist, his arms spread wide to catch even when it dodges to the side. If it flew up, it would take him it and if it stayed to attack the man, it would find Daemon already flailing the crowbar into its face.

    "Greetings..."

He found himself in an elaborate dining room, seated on one end. On the other end, several yards away sat the speaker. Hunchbacked and possessing a long and hooked nose, the man smiled. Beside him stood a woman in blue with silver hair.

"Don't be frightened. My name is Igor...and you are in the Velvet Room." The hunchbacked man announced. Several cards magically flipped over before Igor into a tarot reading pattern.

"A great journey lies upon your future. It will be a difficult journey, but there is much at stake."

Resting his hands beneath his nose, he continued, "It seems our time is up. The next time we meet, it will be of your own will. When that time comes, use this..."

He suddenly found a small key before him. Picking it up, he suddenly felt a pull and his vision grew hazy. "Farewell, Mr. Cassidy, until we meet again."

    ----

Eyes snapped open and Trent found himself in the hospital room. Shaking away his fogginess, he began to calm down. He must have dozed off. Disappointed in himself, he rose from his seat, deciding to avoid any more incidents like that.

Trailing the end of the hospital bed, he looked to his sister --who looked even smaller than the little girl was-- lying in bed. Placing a hand over his chest, he frowned. Turning to the window, he parted the curtains to let the soon approaching morning sun in.

When he turned around, his blood ran cold as he saw it. It resembled a dog, yet consisted of shadows. Standing upon his sister's body, its head was buried deep into her chest. As its head rose from her body, it turned to him, growling deeply with a distorted sound. It lunged forth, barely giving him time to raise an arm to shield himself. Slamming against the window, glass shattered. Blood trickled from the back of his head and gushed from his arm where the creature locked on.

Falling onto his rear, his hand ran across the broken glass on the floor, slicing his fingertips and palm until he found a shard large enough. Bringing the shard back, he jammed it deep into the shadow's right eye,

I'm not usually one to go investigating unusual things. I'm not a particularly brave person. But I suddenly don't like it here in the dark. And I don't like the looks of those squirrels. I fumble around in the dark... thankfully, I know my room pretty well. I done my black cape and slip my katana through the back of my belt. Then, I grab my bokken and use like a walking stick as I summon the courage to go outside.

I leave my apartment, and go down the stairs. I wonder what the hell I think I'm doing. I have no idea what to do about those squirrels, and the man in the coat and hat looks damn suspicious. But I'm compelled to do something. I feel something different. An urge I've never felt before, or if I did, it was always muted by fear. I feel a sense of reassurance, that somehow, I'm okay. Like the sense of security one feels when they know they have someone they trust watching their back. Maybe there was something to that strange dream after all.

I stepped out into the parking lot, and looked up. The moon was bright enough, I could see the squirrels, even though the nearby street light was out. Even so, I was more concerned with the man.

I cautiously walked over to him a bit. "What's up with the squirrels," said.

"Fuckest thing I ever seen," the man grunted. "They're chewing up the wires." He pulled from his hip pocket a flask, and took a swig. "Well, you gunna do something about it, or what?" He looked at me expectantly.

I blinked. "Um... not sure what to do, really," I said.

"Then what'd ya come out here for?" he said. "Specially carryin' that stick like you were gunna use it on somethin'?"

"Uh..." I was at a loss for words. The whole incident seemed surreal.

"Shit," the guy muttered. He turned and walked off. "Well, good luck with that," he said, then muttered something as he tucked his now empty flask in his pocket.

Confused, I watched him go, a little wary. I was certain he was gunna be trouble. Of course, as usually, I was a little slow to realize the trouble that was right in front my nose. Or, in this case, suddenly ripping its claws down my back. With a shout, I whirled, flinging a squirrel off me. It clung on to the fabric of my cape, but thankfully, it's claws were short enough, it only made shallow cuts on my back. Unfortunately, the rest of the squirrels seemed to be intent on coming after me, now.

I quickly snapped off my cape and flung it at the descending mass of sharply tipped fur. Ten of the squirrels were swallowed up by the cape, and they were temporarily stuck in its folds. Two escaped this trap and dashed around the wriggling mass of cloth to leap at my legs. I swung my bokken around, and managed to swat one of the squirrels away. Unfortunately, I missed the second, which resulted in a wicked gash along my left outer thigh.

I staggered back, using the bokken to catch myself. At the same time, a loud tearing sounds could be heard, as the ten other squirrels ripped free from the cape and spilled out like spider's from an egg sac. The pack circled aorund me, and had me surrounded in seconds. I froze, for a moment, not sure what to do. I never imagined I'd be in any sort of real fight, much less against wild animals. But I could tell they weren't just wild. There was something different about them. Something off. Their bodies seemed to emit a light, but noticable, black "steam", visible despite the darkness. And I could swear their eyes gleamed with a yellow shine.

Slowly, I switched my bokken to my left hand, reached behind me and drew my katana with the right, letting the sheath drop to the ground. Then, throwing the bokken at the three squirrels right in front me, I dash towards them. The squirrels jumped back, giving me enough of an opening to dash through, even as they leapt at me. I dashed for the other side of the parking lot, weaving between vehicles. Unfortunately, this served to slow me down more then them, as they could simply dash around the cars.

I paused long enough to swing my sword just over the roof of a Honda right as a squirrel was jumping onto it. I managed to cut off some of its legs, but by then, the other eleven were jumping onto me, scrambling over my body and biting and scratching. Crying out, I whirled wildly, dropping the sword and clawing them off. I never was good at dealing with pain. Getting hurt tended to make me angry. I don't know why, but as it was, the more the things bit and scratched me, the less scared I got and the more frustrated and angry I got.

I barely managed to keep them from tearing up my face. I decided weapons weren't going to cut it against such tiny adversaries. I found myself getting closer to a wall, which divided part of the parking lot from a higher section. I stumbled back, letting a couple of them jump on me, which allowed me to grab them.

Then, with a squirrel in each hand, I slammed them against the wall as hard as I could. I felt bones snap and guts squish, and they squealed loudly. I dropped them as two more jumped on my legs, not checking to see if they were actually out of the fight. I managed to grab one of the two, and repeat my slamming attack. Unfortunately, as I did so, the second one managed to reach my neck, and bit into it.

Gritting my teeth, I reached up to pull it off, only to stumble and fall on my ass. The remaining seven immediately swarmed me, and I closed my eyes, as one of them made a bee-line for my face. The anger gave way to a bolt of terror, and all I could do was throw my hands up to try and shove the things away.

And all of a suddenly, there was a high-pitched chorus of shrieks, and felt as if something were rushing out of me. I slowly opened my eyes... and nearly had a heart attack.

Standing over me was a young woman who was as dear to me as my own life. And yet, I knew it was impossible for her to be here, because she only existed in my dreams.

"Kat?" I whispered. The woman looked down at me and smiled warmly. Then, she vanished, like a ghost. It was another few moments before I sat up. And anothe before I realized the attacks had stopped. Looking around, I saw that the squirrels had been cut to pieces. They also seemed to be leaking more of the black vapor, but after another few moments, the vapor seemed to fade, and vanish.

I blinked. It suddenly occured to me that despite the commotion, no one was coming to see what had happened. It was the wee hours of the morning, but that struck me as odd. The damned things had squealed loud enough. I slowly got up, wincing. The adrenaline was wearing off, and the pain was beginning to set in. I felt like I had a thousand cuts all over my body. More over, I felt exhausted, though not enough to dull the pain. Slowly, I walked back to my apartment, collecting my weapons along the way. Even in the darkness, I decided to take a warm bath to wash out the cuts. By the time I was done, daylight was breaking, and I knew sleep would be impossible now. For the moment, all I could do was call and complain to the electric company that the power was out.

The dog, looked at Travis before fading away.

"Duke?" asked Travis before pulling out his hatchet and knife and approaching the man. How am I supposed to take this guy out, he's obviously insane, and if I'm seeing my old dog, I might be too.
Travis looked at the man laying there, Is he dead?

Slowly Travis walked closer to him, fingering his axe. Five minutes later, Travis was standing over the man. Predictably as soon as Travis leaned over to check the man, he sprang to live and grabbed Travis around the throat.

Travis raised his right hand and smashed the flat of the axe across his attacker's head, causing the strange figure to go limp. "Geeze that's the oldest one in the...."

Before he could finish a sentence, some...the figure's shadow, detatched itself from his body.

It stepped into the foreground, giving it shape, but no color or texture. Travis was too stunned to react to this new assailant which charged and latched its teeth on to Travis's arm. Travis screamed in pain, dropping his axe, he lifted his other hand reflexively and whistled.

Duke appeared again, leaping at the Shadow, driving it back biting at its ankles.

Recognizing what was happening from before, Travis drew close behind Duke. His patience was rewarded, one Duke once again brought his victim to the ground, this time however Travis fell with them.

While the shadow was momentarily weakened Travis stabbed it with his knife, through the left armpit, driving the tip of the blade into where the. heart would be on a man.

The shadow let out a scream, and then faded away.

Travis sat down, looking at the long gash on his arm. Duke, who hadn't dissipated this time came up to Travis, and licked him on the arm. Each lick slowly healed the wound, until only scabs remained where there were once deep gouges.

Travis scratched Duke behind his ear, and the dog kicked its leg like he used to all those years ago, before slowly fading away.

Travis looked over at the man laying by the bicycle path, he could hear the man breathing, but he was obviously wounded, with a big discolored patch on his head where Travis had hit him with the back of the axe.

Travis grabbed the man, who now that he felt him, seemed skin and bone, he couldn't possibly be the man who gave him so much trouble before, could he?

Sighing Travis carried the man over to the road, and called the authorities to pick the man up. Using an old pay phone by the side of the road.

When he saw sirens flash coming however, he walked away, leaving the authorities to deal with the poor man, they certainly had better capabilities then he did.

What would I tell them anyway?

The beast drew back, its right eye ruined, a roar of pain released from its bloody jowls. Clutching the blood slick shard with a bloody hand, Trent gasped for air. The beast quickly rebound, lunged forth toward him, seeking to end this with open jaws.

He was going to die here...

Trent was not afraid of death, but if he were to die to this beast he doubt there would anything left, including his heart, to give his sister. Time seemed to slow, no, it seemed to stop. Across the room, he noticed his sister, or at least a child resembling his sister standing near the door. A faint smile was given before a soft nod.

Despite how vague the gesture was, he couldn't help but understand its meaning. Beads of sweat formed on his brow as he looked to the bloody glass shard in his hand. His breathing grew heavy as he pointed the makeshift weapon towards him.

His body grew calm as he found himself muttering the word, ".....Persona..."

Thrusting the shard into his left eye, destroying his eye and piercing his brain, yet he felt no pain. In his mind's eye, he suddenly saw a blue tarot card, cracking as if made of glass before shattering. Both eyes opened, revealing that the shard of glass was gone from his hand, discarded on the floor away from him as if repelled.

The creature was flung back against the wall as the shards of that card began to swirl around him, collecting above him into a strange shape. Taking form, a figure emerged. Clad in a tattered cloak, armor bolted onto flesh, a hand replaced by a large wicked blade.

As the figure took form, it spoke with a voice resembling the rumbling thunder.

Thou art I, and I am thou.
From the sea of thy soul, I come forth.
I am Tyr, Warrior of Sacrifice.

As the beast lunged forth, Tyr brought up his left arm. Gripped firmly in his gauntlet was a massive sword, its hilt the length of a staff while its handguard was a double-headed axe. Bringing the blade down, the blade cleaved the creature in half.

Terri was about to leave when she paused. Quickly she placed her lucky dragon bracelet on her wrist, then grabbed the bow and arrows that she had left out to be donated to the University, and ran outside. Barefoot and wearing only a housecoat over her PJs, she headed towards the man and woman.

She didn't even stop to realize just how insane this was. She only knew that shew had to do something. Reaching them, Terri raised her bow and arrow to the man's chest, and called out, "Step away from her, or by god I will shoot you."

The man smiled a crazy smile, then turned his attention to Terri. As he did, she yelled at teh woman, "Are you able to walk?" the woman nodded. "Then run! Run and get help." As the woman hesiatated, she yelled, "GO!!!!" The young woman ran as fast as she could.

The man then pulled out his knife and started closing in on Terri, and evil, lascivious look on his face. As he approached her, she took a step back, "I'm warning you. Stay back or I'll shoot.'

The man's pace picked up, and Terri had no choice but to run. As she ran, the man close on her heals, she looked around for help. Turning down a blind alley, she found herself trapped in a dead end. As the man turned the corner, Terri raised up her bow and fired an arrow, not at his chest but at his leg. As the arrow struck, the man screamed an unearthly scream, he then turned to continue towards her, limping from the arrow sticking out from his leg.

Grabbing another arrow, she fired again, this time hitting him in the stomach. The man was thrown back slightly, then continued to stagger towards her until he finally went limp and passed out on the ground.

Shaking with fear, Terri let her arms go limp, as she leaned back against the wall. As she glanced down at the man, she noticed a shadow form surrounding him. He then stood up again, his eyes blank, moving as if he was a puppet. The man pulled out the arrows from his body, his wounds starting to bleed heavily, then approached Terri quickly. He tried to attack her with the arrows, and reflexively used her arms to block his attacks. His attacks were relentless, until he finally drew blood, carving a deep wound across her cheek. She then used all her strength to push him back, but as he attacked again, she crossed her wrists in front of her face in a defensive stance.

As she did, her braclet began to glow with a sky blue light. Suddenily, she heard the flapping of wings overhead and the man was yanked off his feet and thrown backwards. A beautiful blue dragon landed in front of her, it's powerful jaws open in a roar, it's sharp fangs ready to tear the man apart. Quickly getting over the shock, Terri yelled at the dragon, "Draneen! Please don't kill him." How she knew his name, she couldn't say for sure, she just felt like she had known this creature her entire life.

The man, however, ahd already beenknocked unconcious again. From his body, a shadowy creature emerged then vanished into the night. Draneen turned to her, "You are safe now." he spoke without speaking, his voice ringing in her mind. "When you are in danger, I will return to protect you. You have great courage, you will soon need that courage so stay strong." The dragon then flew upwards and dissapeared.

Terri walked out to the street to wait fo rthe police to show up. She hoped this would not take long, for she really wanted to return to her home right now.

The beast flies up with Daemon in tow. The beast fights tooth and claw, but Daemon fights more viciously like he learned during his times on the streets. He hold the crow bar like a knife and stabs the things in the eyes, it's only discernible anatomy.

The beast clutches its face in agony and plummets. It's body, thin as it is, cushions the fall for Daemon but the beast is squashed between him on the ground. Daemon rises, victorious. He raises the crow bar above his head in silent cheer.

Dan blinked a few times. Then he gulped. He had read plenty of fiction, and giant spiders were NEVER a good sign. Also, he wasn't stupid enough to question if it was a dream. He could feel and see far to clearly for it to be a dream. He wasn't falling for that trope.

Of course, that left the problem of the giant spider. He thoguht about all of this in about hte spam of timei t took for the horrid thing to fall at him, fangs out and legs in an obvious attack position. Dan did the only thing he could do in that situation. He took the book he was reading, the latest Eragon book Brisinger, full hard cover too, and swatted the thing hard as he could with a backhand swing. Lucky he had fallen asleep on his bed on his back with the book on his chest. Well not lucky. That's how it always ended up.

The spider flung itself across the room. Dan got up, oddly calm for his currient state. THe spider hit the wall hard, struggling against nothing as it tried to write itself. He quickly jumped out of bed and went to his closet, opening the door and reaching for the one thing he knew would help in this situation.

Killer. It was carved into the extra large woden bat's handle. It had been a gift from his father when he was far younger. Since he wasn't a sports guy, he hadn't even seen it...but he had kept it.

"Thanks dad." He said as he raied the thing over his head. Dettermined to squish the damn spider.

But it was gone. No longer on the floor....he listenedh...looked up at the ceiling, over the floor, on the walls, even shutting the door with his foot, eyes open wide, adrenalin beginning to pump...he was psyched! He coudlnt' believe it! He hadn't felt this way since he'd played Dead Space, but it was even more exciteing since it was real! He felt something....or heard it...he couldn't tell. A chuckle or a growl...inside him.

The spider appeared, crawling out from under his bead, scurying at him rapidly. He stomped at it once to stop it's progress, but the thing only kept comming, and tried to scurry up his leg. In panick, he swung, and alghough he managed to beat teh spider once again off of him, he cracked his shin in the process. The spider sailed again, this time out of the open door into the hallway, bouncing and getting up far quicker this time, looking peeved...or as peeved as a spider can look.

Dave just...growled. The pain. The PAIN! He felt himself growl and felt the strings of rage start to take hold...fear was gone now. Hate. Pain. RAGE!

He set his eyes onthe spider, and hefted the bat. He still felt the pain as he walked, and it made him limp a bit, but he ignored it, glaring the spider down.

"Your rage can change the world..."

He didn't know who said that but he didn't care. He had to kill this thing. Disembodied voices could wait....coudlnt' they?

"You are me. I am you. Join your howl with mine!"

    He clenched his head...it hurt...something...inside....burning....

The beast came before him as it was in his dream. Blue fur, long and powerful arms, steel patting over it's body like a cyborg, claws and teeth, and a wolfish face. He soon realized he wans't looking into his mind, but at the picture of a card. A card he was holding....and with a motion he crushed it.

He didn't know why he did that...he just felt like it was the right thing to do.

The spider scuttled at him, rapidly aproaching, but he couldn't move. His head didn't hurt anymore, it felt..wonderful....and infront of him he saw the beast...no, he knew it's name.

    "Hetfield" he said.

The wraithlike monster put it's hands on the carpet and roared, a loud, powerful thing, almost a howl, and with great force the spider was pressed back again, smashed agianst the wall, pinned there by the force of the monsterous beast's windpipe.

Dan blinked as he saw Hetfield dissapear as suddenly as he had appeared...but he didn't really feel as if Hetfield had left...he was still there...inside him, somewhere.

The spider, one last time, managed to stagger to it's feet, but this time, it went for the wall, either attempting an aerial attack or a retreat.

Dan's eyes focused again, as deadly and as brutal as Hetfields own, and he rushed. The spider never got halfway up the wall. The bat, Killer, hit home, and he kept swinging, bashing, crushing....

It took him almost five minutes to finally realize the spider was long dead. Deep black mist poured out of it, disolving into the air. He panted, tired, exausted, but happy...somehow very happy. He chuckled as he watched the spider, no longer seeping shadow stuff, shrink to normal. He dropped the bat and sat down. His eyes unfocused, his adrenalin ran out, and he sighed, leaning back on the ground.

"Maaaan...it is way to late for this kind of shit....." He sighed and got back up, gripping the bat. He wanted to go back to bed, but shit, a giant spider'd just attacked him. He had to check the house. Had to find out if there was any more.

"One hell of a night." he thought....but he smiled. Confident.

And somewhere, maybe in the woods, maybe in his own mind, a wolf howled.
"No fact escapes me. Why do you think you can?"
