    In accordance with E.U. copyright law, cartoonist Elzie Segar's beloved Popeye
    the Sailor character will become public domain beginning January 1, 2009,
    making it legal for anyone to sell Popeye posters, T-shirts and new comics.

    If so, it would mean that Popeye is ambidextrous... which I don't think has been established.

    So this only true in the EU, right? I'm guess there's some people crazy enough to include him some fanfic crossovers.

    The black and white Popeye cartoons are considered the best the character did from what many claim. And the ones that followed in color went down in quality.
