Talking weirdest complaint/ defence of the BND era of the year.

as the first year is done I wonder what is the weirdest complaint from the detractors you've read.

I encourage the anti-side to do the same for our defense in order to be fair.

    for me it was

the "it reads like an old ASM"

    yeah that was the point.

For me it was the "he can't have sexual/ romantic tension with so and so."

Yeah, he can't. But that was hardly the reason I was reading the book in the first place. Why does he need to be single in order to tell compelling stories is beyond me, because I feel there is only a limited amount of places you can go with a love interest without covering the same ground others went before.

the "it reads like an old ASM"
Was that the complaint or the defense?

Aunt May's house. I never understood anyone being that bothered by it being rebuilt.

    Second weirdest is
how they complained that they brought harry back with in the confines the previous established continuity( set by DeFalco)

followed by 20 yrs of stories down the drain cause MJ had no ring on her finger

    From the pro-BND side...
That I was biased against them.

    From the anti-BND side...
That a comic book coming out three times a month should sell as well per issue as a monthly title which had an a-list writer, and was tied into major events for 21 consecutive issues.

Anti: all these stories could be done with a married peter.... provided you change something....

The whole idea of a story working is to not have to change it. If you have to change something it means it doesnt work without the change.

Weirdest complaint: "20 years worth of stories were erased!" - Despite multiple references to previous stories.

Weirdest defense: "Peter social life is interesting again!" - Despite the fact that he never actually spends time with the new characters and this was even pointed out to him in the latest issue.

Weirdest Steve Wacker argument: This one.

Bonus OMD weirdest defense: "It's a DEMON, not a devil." - Despite the fact that the character was used due to the simplicity of the Faustian pact and its implications.

ooo let me add to that the opposite....

"My personal religion is Christianity, as such, i find spidey's dealings with the devil to be distasteful"

nevermind the fact that hes no worse than any other demon, nor is he tied to a religion.... id rather push my own religious agenda to justify my dislike of a terrible story where in all 3 characters are not written in character.

    for that matter i'll add....

"Well his name is similar and he looks like the devil", "No ive never seen Satanish or Lucifer ever.... who are they?"

I posted this in another thread, but it fits here, too.

All the stories happened, but they were in a relationship, not married" = THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE!!!

"BND stories couldn't have happened if Peter weren't single" = SURE, HE'D JUST BE MARRIED, INSTEAD!!!

Those are pretty good one's DarkEye.

    My contenders are:

Weirdest Complaint: "It got rid of Peter Parker's new powers he got from the Other: Evolve or Die storyline!" Yeah, like we really needed to see Spidey sprout out Wolverine-esque bone spears over and over again.

Weirdest defense: variations of wanting to see Peter hook up with other characters. These include "Peter's can now have a relationship with Sue Storm cause she's a MILF!" or "He should now marry Felicia Hardy!" or "Peter can now reveal he's gay!"

Weirdest Marvel argument: from no less that Roger Stern, who said, "I would never say [Peter Parker] should never marry. But he certainly should not be married to Mary Jane Watson. That's just crazy." Paradoxically, Stern is both agreeing and disagreeing with with Joe Quesada at the same time.

Stern has been against the marriage of Pete to MJ Long before Joe was around.

I know that. But notice that Stern says that he's not against Spider-Man being married, like Joe Q is, but rather MJ specifically. Hence why I said it was paradoxical that he's agreeing yet also disagreeing with Quesada.
