Just had a quick scan of X Men: Origins - Sabretooth, it seems like a good overview of Creed's life, with a few little gems thrown in.

The art is generally good, the story and dialogue seem will written. Will read it in more detail tonight.

    Slight spolier below:

There doesn't seem to be anything particularly new or earth shattering, but I particularly like the scene where the young Victor has gnawed/clawed his hand off to escape the manacles in the cellar his parents kept him in.

    X-Men Origins: Sabretooth......

    spoilers:
I enjoyed the first few pages of Sabretooth's childhood....

But then holy cow, did this get bad. Horrible jumping around. Silver Fox, Wolverine's birthday...skimming the surface of things we've already seen a dozen times before.

Wasn't there also an issue of Uncanny where Xavier mentally showed Sabretooth his "first kill?" Contradicts what we saw here.

I was hoping for some kind of psychological foray into Creed's mind, what turned him into the killer he is today. Instead we got a few pages of what could have turned into a good story along those lines....and several pages of a garbage Wolverine vs Sabretooth through the ages story.
    end of spoilers

Yeah, it did seem to mine a lot of the same origin territory that was already covered (and better), like in Hama's "Sabretooth" mini. And I like Panosian's art, but i'm not convinced he was really the right choice for the script here. A little too cartoony and light-hearted, would have preferred someone darker, more intimidating.

And i'm really starting to hate how they depict Creed as an average buff-dude with long fingernails instead of the snarling feral man-beast he originally was depicted as..

    I agree.

But since Fox cast a twerp of a man to play Sabretooth in the Wolverine solo movie, it makes sense.

Sabretooth is a HUGE man, no a 5 foot 10 skinny guy.

I'm happy that they actually got an actor to pull it off though, and not some wrestler who they didn't want to anything but growl and one-liners. I can't think of a decent actor who could really pull off Vic's kind of sadism and still be a physical giant.

Yeah, really horrid casting. It seems Hollywood can only cast him as an evil businessman (Liev Schrieber, really?) or some one-note WWE oaf (the original X-movie). Utter tripe.

And did anyone else get a Tony Ward in Hustler White feel from the cover there? Vic all shirtless and tight-jeaned, shit-eating grin and all?

If they could hide the fact that Tom Cruise is 5'1" for so long in films, I think they can manage to make a 5'10" guy look 6'8" or so. It's all in the perspective of the camera, if a cinematographer is dedicated enough.

Schrieber may not have been an ideal choice, but he has the acting chops to pull this off.

Yeah, but I don't want acting chops/range of emotion from my Sabretooth. I want a scary, beastial bad-ass killing machine. Which is what he's supposed to be.

    Same here.

Schrieber is a fine actor, but Jackman is a much larger man, and from the movie trailer we have seen, the director shot Sabretooth at the actors real size, so Wolverine is bigger than Sabretooth in the film.

So the movie is indeed has a twerpy little Sabretooth in it. I still am very excited about the movie, but Sabretooth looks like crap in it.

After reading the issue properly I agree, this is why Sabretooth needs to be brought back in a limited series showing his past in more detail.

I love Joe Madureira's rendition of Sabretooth. From the Phalanx Covenant to Age of Apocalypse to the brilliant Uncanny X-Men 328 fight between Creed and Psylocke, he just made Creed look scary.
