    Default Posts not showing up?

I have posted twice to the forum in the past 24 hours yet none of the posts appear in the forum. When I click my user name to see my posting history it shows that the post(s) exist but I am unable to view them in the forum.

PS. Let's see if this even works....

    Thanks.

I've noticed this as well... I just thought no one wanted to hear my rants. :(

I've also noticed that sometimes new posts to a thread will appear within the thread but not in the "latest post" column on the forums index page. It takes a subsequent post for the latest post column to be updated.

    That is,

User A posts a reply, post exists in thread, but no update on the "latest post" column for that thread.
User B posts a reply to the same thread after A, "latest post" column is updated with correct last post info. That is, the post info for user B.

Appears the info for user A's post is dropped somehow... this is an intermittent problem that I've noticed on occasion.

Actually, I have a perfect example of what I'm talking about in the above post. I have a thread in the classic comics forum entitled "Best Classic Sci-Fi Comic Cover (2008)." The last poster for that thread was "Pól Rua" but on the classic comics forum index the last poster is noted as "i*love*comics*247."

It also appears to be the case with my "Best Classic Western" and "Best Classic War" threads as well... even involves the same users.

So what I have noticed so far too is that two of my posts didn't appear in the forum yet would show up in my profile. When someone posted in that forum after I Had posted my post appeared. But in the instance of my Saw V post in the TV/Film thread it still does not show up because no one else has posted after me.

If you can read this post then you've fixed the problem by now. If you haven't you can't read this post, so no point in telling you that recent posts (as of 11/16, 11:22 est) don't seem to be showing up... although the "last poster" column seems to be updating correctly now.

Since I can read my last post, I'm assuming you can too... so what I said in the last post is true except for this thread. That is, other than this thread, recent posts don't seem to be showing up.

I've located as to when the problem happens. I think each thread allows 15 posts before creating a new page. So let's say I am the fifteenth poster, or the last post on a page, my post won't show up until after a someone else posts. It's weird.

I think I've noticed this problem even when a "page break" wasn't needed to be generated. But you might be right and I could be mistaken. It's not a problem with the databases I guess, at least in the sense that posts are being "dropped," since the posts apparently are retained and eventually retrieved. I would assume that pages for forum threads are "generated" once from the databases and stored in a repository to cut down on loading. They are probably only regenerated when a new post (or an edit) "triggers" or necessitates their regeneration. The fault probably lies in this code IMO. Maybe a deadlock occurs on these repository files every now and then... but that's pure speculation on my part.

I tried editing an old post in a thread that had my missing replies (in an attempt at forcing a generation of a new file with the missing posts) and that edited post was returned modified, but the other posts are still MIA (no new file generated). As mentioned by suttercain, the number of posts on that page of the thread was already fourteen or fifteen... so the repository-regeneration theory still is a possibility... but it's more likely that just part of the thread is regenerated when modified, not that all the files (for the entire thread) are regenerated. But again, that's pure speculation on my part... the bottom line is we found an apparent bug and you guys know your architecture and how pages are ultimately generated... so go fix it. :) Before you're outsourced! :)

That explains a lot. But obviously not today at this time, what days does this occur?

There is schedule maintenance every day at around 12-2 AM PST which can cause this problem.

Thanks for explaining that. :) I have that problem because, unfortunately this is the only time I ever post. And while my posts eventually do show up, the threads they are in are never bumped even after maintenance is complete. Also, none of the posts I make during those hours change my post count at all. Just thought I'd make a note of that.
