Manifest Destiny #3: Iceman, Graymalkin and Colossus [SPOILERS]

Kill or Cure Pt 3 by Carey and Ryan

Iceman is on the road again hitching a ride and telling the truck driver his story about how he reformed after being attacked by mystique. Suddenly a cop shows up and starts shooting at them. The cop is obviously Mystique, Iceman throws the driver out before the truck explodes. He walks out of the fire and up to Mystique telling her that fire wont kill him. She'll have to shoot him, powering down walking into her shotgun.

The story's purpose to make Iceman an important character that should be taken seriously is kinda interesting but overall each issue abruptly ends just as I'm about to get invested. I think the pacing is a bit off and its heavily affecting the story. The art though clear and easy to follow lacks any strong emotion, so for the most part Iceman seems pretty bored during the whole thing. Not my cup of tea.

Abomination by Guggenheim and Paquette

Graymalkin is sitting, telling his story to someone. He talks about how he was buried alive for so many years and explains how he got there. Jonas Greymalkin was 16 and exploring his identity when his father found him. Beat to a pulp, he only woke up to find himself being buried alive by his father. All that just because his father had found him ...with another boy. Anole tells him that back then people werent tolerant but now..everything is going to be ok.

Paquette's art here was much better. I think its because Graymalkin is basically his design and his anole was reduced to 2 panels. And he's great (or at least much better) with normal looking people. Guggenheim also gave us some backstory to his new character, which is important if you want readers to care about your stories so I think this was a great story. In any of the previous issues it may have been my favorite but this week it had a very strong opponent.

Uncheerable by Yost and Ramos

Wolverine and Nightcrawler try everything to cheer their buddy Colossus up. Trying to ignite some passion into him by getting Rockslide to try and start a fight, going out for drinks, a movie, some of the kids try their own ways. Nothing seems to help. Wolverine even goes "X-force" drastic on Colossus but it fails. When all hope seems to be gone, fate helps by bringing a small girl to Colossus who is sitting in a park. "Can you help me rescue kitty?" Her kitty cat is caught in a tree. Colossus calmly responds that "Nothing would make him happier"

Definitely my favorite this week. Yost just gets the X-men. He gets the X-men, he gets the new X-men , he even gets the random girls who lose their pets in trees and need Colossus' help. Also I love Ramos' art. I know not everyone does, but I think it's full of energy and it just makes me excited to read comics. Overall the best in the book for me.

It was also very nice to see Loa back!

Uncheerable was cute and refreshing. Abomination sold me on Graymalkin. Kill or Cure makes me long for the Mike Carey who wrote Lucifer.

I am happy that someone thought to offer to get Colossus a hooker to get him over Kitty Pryde.

The fact that it's Iceman, and he got slugged by Logan for it makes it even better. Uncheerable really was fun. And we got a homage to the Rockslide/Match roasting marshmallows scene, to boot. And Loa, with dialogue!

The Mystique/Iceman story is coming to a head, to say the least. Did Raven just want Bobby to realize he's virtually immortal? Hmm.

And other than that, are we seeing hints of a Graymalkin/Anole coupling? I mean, Northstar would've been an older man, but Graymalkin's like... Revolutionary War older man. Huh.

Kill Or Cure was great, but it should have been a one-shot full issue, breaking the story in parts really hurts it. I love what they're trying to do with Mystique and Iceman, tho! Powering down in front of her? There's nothing that Mystique loves better than a helpless, naked man on her feet!

I loved Abomination. The subtle innuendo when Gheymalkin used the words "identity" and "myself" instead of "awesome kickass powers" kinda hinted it for me, but I was still shocked when the reveal came (and I only got it in the second look! lol!). Powerful story, but now I can see Gheymalkin and Anole totally becoming the mutant equivalent of Billy and Teddy! only less hot

Yost's Colossus story was adorkable!!! LOL at Iceman calling Piotr's mom a hoe-bag! But isn't the next Uncanny arc gonna deal with Piotr's grief, anyway? I'm still glad this story gave us so many cute moments! More like this, please!

Teddy and Billy in Young Avengers, Karolina and Xavin in Runaways. Is there some requirement for all Marvels teen teams to have a gay couple now? Oh I hope that's not where this is headed...it's not enough to nick the Young Avengers adjective...apparently we need similar characters and relationships too! We have Ink as the flawed, bald, tough guy aka Patriot, Dani as the non-powered, bad ass female lead aka Hawkeye....and now we're headed towards having our very own X-flavoured Wiccan and Hulkling! Yawn. But I guess we'll see...

With all the uproar about the supposed gay bashing in Uncanny 501 I wonder why no ones crying over the gay bashing from this book. Probably because Dazzler isn't involved.

Many gays i know are superficial and the fact Graymalkin is ugly is more important than any politics. No wonder he hangs out in the dark. Probably only way he is gonna find a date so he cant be seen.

I'm for one, really glad seeing Pixie acting like Pixie not like some porn face teenager that is in Uncanny.

Abomination was also great. Didn't see it coming about Greymalkin till almost the end of the part. Guess, we're gonna see more Anole-Greymalkin interaction in Young X-Men. Not sure about the pairing though...

I think Iceman story should be a better read when stories are completed. It's just wierd to have one unfinished (ongoing) story and 2 short stories in a book.

Aren't the carapice and arm and green skin enough? I seriously doubt any normal looking human would go for him, even with an attractive face. Way I see it, Vic hasn't exactly got many options if he does actually want a partner. Besides, Greymalkins big wide eyes are sorta cute! I don't like the (potential) pairing though.

But how are they going to get around the age thing though?

He's been in some kind of stasis I guess...so technically he's still a teenager.

I loved this issue. Best one of the 3 so far. Uncheerable was the best , I think. A lot of great stuff going on in there.

Many straights I know are superficial. But of course a superficial gay person is no surprise because it is common knowledge superficiality is typical homosexual behaviour, right?
