Default CBR: McCarthy Hails Megatron at IDW

“All Hail Megatron!” writer Shane McCarthy brings the Autobot/Decepticon war to
Earth with a bang and scores the first ever comics-to-toy Transformer in the 12-
issue IDW series, issue #4 of which is on sale now.

    Few inaccuracies here:

returns the primary focus of the Transformers franchise to the Autobot/Decepticon battle on Earth
This is misleading - Earth had been the primary focus in the IDW line in all three of the main "-ation" line. It only stopped being the primary focus in Relevations (a four-issue mini), and will go back to being it in Maximum Dinobots.

IDW's shift in its "present day" series from tales connected to the characters' space roots by classic "Transformers" writer Simon Furman to earth-bound battles and the twist of a large-scale coming out for the robots no-longer-in disguise
Incorrect - most of the -ations and several Spotlights (Soundwave, Ramjet, Grimlock) had been entirely Earth-bound battles.

Also, the Transformers had made a large-scale coming out under Furman: open warfare in urban areas on live TV, camera crews snapping Sixshot, the Ark-19 appearing in the sky, the USAF engaging and sighting Decepticons, and the Reapers heading down to Earth to fight Decepticons in Nevada. (And then Grimlock stomped across a busy highway in broad daylight)

the very first Transformers character ever to make the jump from the comic page to the toy aisle
Incorrect - Jhiaxus got a toy in 2003. The Fallen followed in 2007.

    "We must fight on!"
"We'll die. We fight and we die, that's how it goes."
    "Then we die gloriously!"
"There's an important word there, and it's not gloriously."

This best thing about this series so far is that it seems to be the wildest fantasy of every child who grew up on the Transformers since G1 and wanted to see the Decepticons rise up and show how deadly they can be. Really put the Autobots backs up against the wall and just make it as rough as it can be for them.

And the art is really something. I was never a fan of Guido's early stuff with the transformers but he has really come a long way and stepped up considerably for this series putting out some of the best work on the Transformers I have ever seen.

    What is this crap?

So many statements that are just plain wrong. Who's fault is that? The journalist, McCarthy, or both?

Sell AHM on its own merits, not by presenting lies and mistruths to try and make your own work look better.

Terrible, and I expect better from CBR articles.

I havent been enjoying All Hail Megatron, too little follow up to the plot points from the -ation series, and overall not great writing. It doesnt help that it is one of the most decompressed titles I have ever read.

Plus, the new "Drift" character sounds horrible. there are hundreds of pre exisiting characters in the Transformers Universe, making another one, who just screams "forced cool" (he's holding a sword in the preview art for God's sake) does not seem worth it.

Come on, KJ, you've made it abundantly clear, across all of the boards, that you're vehemently against AHM and myself and, hey, that's cool.

What's not cool is calling the great staff here at CBR liars. Ok, so a couple of the points were a little off, it happens and of course it wasn't deliberate.

These guys do a great job to spread the word on countless books in the industry and, in this case, are helping to spread the word on Transformers.

More Transformer fans is never a bad thing.

But we've already seen that in the comics, on multiple occasions starting with when Shockwave first appeared in 1984. The Generation 2 series on its own was all Decepticons cutting loose and being badly, laying waste of Earth and killing dozens of planets and gunning Autobots down all the time.

Though I'll admit this is the first time the Autobots have been completely unable to intervene during the aforementioned rampages.

I'm sure if you ask, CBR will be more than happy to refund all the money you paid for your subscription.

I'm disappointed in the inaccuracies in this article. Shane, I have no problem with you. I've tried to clarify that multiple times. I'm not really enjoying AHM, no. I'm definitely not alone in that. I'm having trouble reconciling it with the last 3 years of IDW continuity. The characters are just too different for me to look past that. I probably would have liked AHM if it had been an alternate continuity or something, I've stated that before.

This article has many errors. I find CBR to be one of the best in the 'biz, and I'm disappointed to see this many errors in an article, particularly a subject I'm passionate about.

Well, all I can say is that I've been loving this series which has been a breath of fresh air. Impressive considering also how "old school" it feels. Best TF comic series since G2 ended? You betcha.

I admit I always wanted to see what would happen if Megatron and the Decepticons won.

This comic pretty much shows it in various good ways.

I can't wait for the trade to come out.

It's just a BM Jetstorm repaint. It was exclusive in the US, Target I think?

Kinda neat, but not that great.

Yeah, it was released in the RID line.

I want to say KB Toys exclusive... but it was definitely an exclusive.

    You're right, it was KB.
