The Sarah Connor tv show explained that alternate timelines do exist, and in the Dynamite timeline, Kate was already dead at the beginning of the first Dynamite miniseries.

Just FYI: In the Terminator Salvation movie timeline, Kate is still alive and will be appearing in the movie (and one assumes the IDW Salvation comics as well).

Yes, she is very much alive and will be making an appearance in the IDW series, albeit a small one.

I have to say, it's kind of neat to have two different takes on the franchise coming out at the same time. Just based on the article and sample pages here, I can tell you my approach to the prequel series is quite different, both in terms of story elements and themes. Not necessarily better, just dissimilar. I'll be curious to hear the reaction of fans. Between the two series, there should be something for everyone to like.
