    Default Was General Zod right?

Thinking it over, given what we know of Zod pre-phantom zone, I really don't see why he should be so villanized. (Post Phantom Zone, Sure, probably made him crazy)

I mean, the entirety of Krypton would die with no survivors if nothing was done, and the Science Council wasn't even considering the possibility of Krypton dying. A coup might have been a bit extreme, but was it really out of line considering what was at stake?

I do genuinely think that with the information we've been given about Krypton and Zod pre-destruction, he was actually in the right. Something needed to be done, and the Science Council wasn't doing it.

YES. I thought I was the only one that thought this. Zod seems completely heroic whenever I see him in the flashback. And what the government did to Non was really unforgivable.

I was actually pretty dissapointed when he became generic evil facist when he escaped the Phantom Zone.

Ditto. If they had kept up with his pre-destruction characterization, it would have made him a more interesting character. Granted, the story probably would have had a lot less action, but not necessarily.

Zod was both right and wrong. He was right in that the Kryptonian Science Council had become ineffective and emotionally distant. They didn't care for the fate of the Kandorians, much less consider the possibility of their own destruction. So in trying to overthrow the government, which is always a tricky thing, he was right. Where he was wrong is that he was already a threat. If he had succeeded he would've turned Krypton back into what it was when his ancestors ruled. I don't think the House of Zod ever forgave the populace for turning on them. The resentment probably festered on down to the present day and he would've ruled Krypton with an iron fist. And as we saw in "Last Son", Zod did care about Krypton, but only because he wanted to be in charge. 35 years of resentment festered until it finally boiled over into what we saw.

He was probably an evil facist before the went into the Phantom Zone. Yes, he was in the right to try to wrest control of Krypton from the Science Counsel when they were going to just let Krypton die. But just because he did the right thing, doesn't mean he did it for the right reasons.

He was just a bit too quick to swear death to the man that saved his life.

Even if he was successful in ousting the council... riots and civil disrest and quite possibly civil war would have broken out as a result of the regime change and Krypton would have died anyway....

Had Krypton survived he would have been a dictator who seized power thorough a military coop....
All stories are imaginary, so you get to decide what's important and what isn't. Continuity is fluid.

I don't think his character should be so black and white. I think his morality should be questionable, but they shouldn't make him blatantly evil. It's possible that Zod could have taken over Krypton without a rebel backlash to his coupe. I mean what kind of political government would he have set up?

The idea of what would have happened if Zod had won would make a great Elseworld story. Maybe he would have saved the Krytponians from dying in their destruction of their world.

Wouldn't General Zod have thousands of people dedicated to him in the military that could be used to ensure order, and make sure that some type of protection/space travel is developed? I mean, a single scientist reverse engineered Braniacs force field and put it over an entire city, what could even a small portion of the Kyrptonian culture do?

General Zod never became a mainline Superman enemy until Superman II and Terrence Stamp's version has become the definitive version (and rightfully so).

Any early version of Zod has to be somewhat in line with what he'll eventually turn out as: a cold-hearted, egocentric fascist who has a hatred for Jor-El and his immediate family.

On the surface, Zod probably sees himself as a great leader and patriot felled by misunderstanding and betrayal, but in his heart-of-hearts, he's really just a cruel dictator, which he understands on some level.

Well if say Jor-El had supported him and that he would have gain power wouldn't he have made the politcal calculation that evacuating the planet would have put his power in a precarious position and decide not to listen
Has to remember his suggestion for the traitor game
