    Default Who is Spider-Man's archenemy?

You know with Batman, it's the Joker
You know with Superman, It's Luthor.

But with Spider-Man, I'm not too sure. (I'm sure someone is going to joke around and say Joe Quesada) but all jokes aside, I know it comes down to Norman Osborn (The Green Goblin), Venom (Eddie Brock) and Dr. Octopus. When I was a kid, I thought it was Doc Ock because it always seemed like Spider-Man was up against Doc Ock in one form or another and they had that chemistry that made them great foes of one another. But as I got older, I was introduced to the Green Goblin and all of the major damage he's done to Spider-Man over the years, has to count for something. Of course, there's always Venom and he always seemed like a contender for the top villain spot as well. So I'm just curious, who do you regard as Spider-Man's greatest foe?

I've always thought Dr. octopus was his arch enemy. There's just that nice polar opposite dark thing going for them as both were science geeks that got picked on alot and both got their powers from lab accidents.

I am obsessed with the idea of completely erasing Spider-Man from every Marvel continuity

    True and true.

Harry Osborn is the arch nemesis. He is Peter Parker's perfect opposite.

    Harry:

    -Not smart in school
    -Rich
    -Has a father
    -Dates Mary Jane (early on)
    -Is weak
    -Experiments with drugs
    -Influenced by father Norman
    -Becomes the ultimate villain

    Peter:

    -Smart in school and science
    -Poor
-No parents, Uncle Ben is murdered
-Wants to date Mary Jane (early on)
    -Is strong
    -Resist drugs
    -Influenced by Uncle Ben
    -Becomes a hero

He currently is the anti-Peter right now, it's easy to see.

Anyone will tell you that Spider-Man comics are just as much about Peter Parker as they are about Spider-Man. No villian has ever done more to hurt Spider-man AND Peter as much as Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin. Their battles are always brilliant and they have a never ending feud that cuts much deeper than any other villian's does.

Well in the old days, it was definitely Doc Ock. Osborn had his big moment, but then he died, and Ock was pretty much the undisputed arch nemesis. Then in the 80's Hobgoblin was pretty much his biggest enemy. In the 90's Venom came along and took it for awhile, with Harry right behind him until his death. Then they brought Norman back and they built him up so much that he'll be the arch nemesis forever and ever now, unless he dies again.
