Default CBR Film Club #1: Django

Hey all! This is the first assignment of the CBR Film Club. If your not familiar with how we do this, here's what we do.

    - A movie is assigned
    - obtain copy by any means
    - watch movie
    - form an opinion
    - report
    - repeat
    - Bob's your uncle

The first movie we'll look at will be Sergio Corbucci's Django (1966).

You can find this movie at all tangible and internet stores and rental areas.

Thoughts, reports, feelings, clips and funny quips about the film will be talked about here.

    And most of all....Have Fun.

You have from Sept. 18 to Oct. 2 before the next assignment is planned.

I have yet to see this in a tangible store or rental place, but I'm also talking about the Southeast.

I group mom and pops with franchises when I mean tangible. Sorry.

I find it especially funny that Blockbuster offers it in their mail service.

I think anyone who knows the meaning of tangible would do that.

I SO wanted to see this, but I think it's left the cinema already.

    I'm a Miike freak!

There's another film that Tarantino is putting his name behind: Hell Ride. If someone asks you to see this film, just smack them and walk away! It's utter crap. I felt embarrassed for the writer/director/star, and finally had to walk out. The scene that did it was when the cheesy Ho says:
"Come over hear and FK me! I'm the messenger of doom and when I tell you what I have to say you'll never want to FK again! FK me now! Come on and F8 ^OK me. Don't you want to F8 ^OK? Let's F8 ^OK right here..." That's just a watered down sample of what drove me out of the cinema!

I had to change from meta tags, so that's why it's suddenly different.

......... banned in britain for 25 year ! must have been that part with the ear - watched the dubbed version for a wile but the italian is much better . the english version skips alot of the plot points and glosses over most the anti mexican stuff . the making of doc is great , loved all the unoficial django movies

    - nick cave should do a cover of the django theam

Django, have you always been alone?

    Chorus: django!

Django, have you never loved again?
Love will live on, oh oh oh...
Life must go on, oh oh oh...
For you cannot spend your life regreatting.

    Chorus: django!

Django, you must face another day.

    Chorus: django!

Django, now your love has gone away.
    Once you loved her, whoa-oh...
    Now you've lost her, whoa-oh-oh-oh...
But you've lost her for-ever, django.

It’s not that I hate Django exactly.

There are all sorts of nice spaghetti western bits in it from, some great cinematography, a great deal of good old fashioned gratuitous violence and you've got to love what’s turns out to be in the coffin.

But damm, even in his native Italian, Franco Nero is just a terrible, terrible actor.

My granddaughters Ken doll is more expressive.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that there are far better trash pictures to start a film club around.

So how do we decide who gets to pick the next selection?

I like how Corbucci tries to put some realism into it. I guess that possibly why it flopped it's first run. Instead of getting this usual dusty American western setting, we got this slogging mud hole of a ghost town full of racists and banditos. I've heard many people refer to it as a "gothic western". I can sort of see it with the red hoods and such. Watch it in the original Italian with subs. The dub is totally bland. It reminds me of the K. Murray dubs.
