I have no friggin idea, since it ends with that revelation. My guess is, either MM:
1) Exists on an alternate mars, like in a seperate plane or something.
2) Is visually, or perhaps entirely sealed away from normal space while still technically occupying that space. IE, its there, but people who haven't done something specific (pass through a gate) won't be able to actually interact with or see any of it. A similar premise appeared in To aru Majutsu no Index, where a villain's hq--one filled with powerful magic and littered with the corpses of his fallen enemies--was literally a public school, but no one ever knew because his base and the school were, as they put it, two sides of a coin. People on one side of the coin couldn't interact with the other, so you had stuff like school students walking straight through corpses and puddles of blood without coming into contact with them, even though they occupied the same space.
3) Might exist on a seperate time plane. Perhaps with a complicated relation to Earth in terms of time. For instance, perhaps MM exists on Mars in 10,000 BC, but the gates sychronize with Earth in 2007, and they continue on like that (one year in MM would make it 2008 on Earth on the other side of the gate, while MM is now occupying the Earth equivalent of 9,999 BC on Mars).

Oh now that You mention it I remember that it was stated that Magic world is "out of phase" with normal world so probably #2 is right.
"I checked the abandoned warehouse, only to find it abandoned..."
Mars huh? That's pretty weird.
And can we go one chapter without everybody praising each other? I get it. All of them are awesome. Stop shoving it in my face and just let them show it instead.

Shameless plugg for an Evangeline-fanfic!
Chapter 258 spoilers.
spoilers:end of spoilers
Adult Fate appears at the ball and talks with Rakan. Rakan says something about "wiping his own ass"
Magic world ("mahousekai") isn't Mars it exists in sort of magical space ("isekai") as opposed to real world ("genjitsusekai"). But it's sort of attached to Mars.
Negi may never return to mahora again (maybe that part kinda unclear)
Also theres part where Negi and Asuna relationship reminds Rakan of Nagi and Arika ( complete with one panel flashback showing them having exactly the same kind of interaction- only with members of Ala Alba swaped with corresponding ones from Ala Rubra: Negi-Nagi Setsuna-Eshuin etc.) Interesting...
OK that's all for now folks! Be sure to comment.
"I checked the abandoned warehouse, only to find it abandoned..."
Chapter out. They mainly discuss the Mars revelation, and we get to see a few mentions of Chao and how her story might ominously link up with the fate of the magic world.
Their short discussion about Setsuna's choice of ball-wear was cute, and Rakan was funny as always.
But the big thing is: Rakan vs. Fate. I wonder what Rakan's intentions are. Is he going to seriously fight, or does he want to have some kind of heated discussion with Fate for some odd reason?
And if he does want to fight, how the hell does he think the two of them can go at it inconspicuously while so close to the ball?

Chapter 258 is out!
And I have to say... Akamatsu delivers. This guy is just genius. If he isn't the best current shonen mangaka I don't know who else could claim that title!
This chapter has buttload of revelations, some of them I mentioned in the spoilers. It also gives us tips about what Fate meant by saying that he wants to save the world.
Did anyone noticed reference to famous anime movie?
Rakan vs Fate? Cool but im not sure if they will actually fight.
Rakan flashback means game over for lots of ships.
Edit: Ninjad by Robo-chan (can I call you that?)

Random Brainstorming:
Chao's "Mars will become inhabitable in the future," Fate's attempt to make a new world/destroy the old, and Negi's mutterings in this chapter about bounded alternate spaces leads me to believe this series of plot points (in Chao's timeline):
1. Fate destroys most of the gateways that anchor the Magical World plane to the Normal World plane. This weakens the grand spell that holds the Magical World half-a-step off of the normal reality.
2. Fate uses the uber-magic-nullifying field to tear a huge metaphorical hole through the Magical World. He basically rips out a huge chunk of the alternate reality spell. This also fubars most of the people who would normally be able to fight him/screw-up the next part of the plan.
3. Fate jumps through the Ostia portal, and takes it down. The Magical World no longer has proper anchors to the Real World, and can no longer properly sustain itself. It starts drifting/falling apart.
4. Either as a back-up safety to the uber-spell, or an act of the major wizards at Ostia working together, the Magical World's phase space is drawn back into the Normal World's phase space. Damage to the spell, however, has the Magical World super-imposed on Mars.
(4-2? Fate uses the vast dregs to super-power himself in Ascension or some other strange thing. Mostly steps out of history here).
5. Mars gains a huge load of atmosphere and mass from the Magical World. While it will help in terraforming, it is not enough to currently support life on Mars. Massive casualties throughout the world, as mages try to errect barriers to prevent decompression and the like. Major locations and supporters of Fate probably have special lockdown sections specifically for this, but most of the villages and common populance die.
6. Mages try to get help from the only source they can - Earth. The problem is this is a truly unexpected event, has every initial appearance as a hoax, and every wizard with major power most likely has to stay back and power shields. This means that every government balks at helping the thousands (probably hundreds of thousands, possibly millions) of survivors in terms of food, aid, transport, and assistance in setting up gates to retrieve people from Mars. Untold more die during this period, since all major help would take months, at minimum, to arrive.
7. Eventually, the refugees are saved, humanity recognizes magic, there are some squabblers about everything, and humanity settles down. Mages start going back to Mars with scientists, and manage to terraform the planet and restart the "Magical World" again. Many years pass, and the actual events are obscured by history.
8. Chao is born, grows, and discovers the truth behind the incident. She constructs her time machine and goes into the past for two major reasons. First, the magic-recognition spell. In the worst-case scenario, this spell would help the governments move faster and be more willing in assisting the mages in saving their kind. Her future technology, until that point sealed, will be pulled out to make the trip faster, and hopefully significantly more will survive She also knows her grandpa will be there, and hopes that with greater resolve and more support, Negi can swing a victory/take out one of Fate's steps and prevent the incident from occuring.
Just my two cents, of course.
Sincerely,
Melchior, the Geddon Knight
Eiichiro Oda with One Piece, easily. The revelation in last week's One Piece curbstomps the revelation in this week's Negima.
Ookubo Atsushi and Hiromu Arakawa are good runner-ups to Oda.
The only part I cared about this week was the part about Setsuna's outfit. It was nice.

Rakan confronts Fate, and their discussion leads to the appearance of Fate's four partners (the four girls, minus Shiori who is still Asuna). A battle breaks out between them. Rakan seems to be toying with them at first, still flipping skirts and teasing them. The girls start using some powers they haven't revealed before. One of the girls who created that dimension trap previously can transform into a cat-girl monster, and the fire girl can use a number of really powerful fire attacks. Rakan gets serious and manages to capture both of these two. They he asks them why girls as powerful as them want to follow Fate.

Wow. You can tell that Negima has really gone down the tubes when the new chapter's been out for more than a day with virtually zero discussion.
meh, not in my opinion. But the translator was late this week because of summer vacation, and after next week there will be a 3 week break.
Its a good thing Fate's girls are quick with their hands. I like the fire girl and the fact that she has a fire form similar to Negi's lightning form.
