The two most famous superheroes in the world are probably Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman because they are universally iconic.
Spiderman, the Xmen, Fantastic 4, The Hulk, and co may have had more modern movies, but ask the average person to name 5 Superheroes, most likely Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman will be some of the first ones they think of.
Spiderman and the Xmen (as a team) will probably also be on that list.
Famous? No. Superman still is the most famous comic book character in the face of the earth and that's without the movies.
Popular? You betcha.
...And does Mr. Goddanm Batman says so much as ''Thanks''? OF COURSE not. That'd hardly be GRIM AND GRITTY, would it?

Depends on what you mean by "famous." If all you're talking about is name recognition, it's Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man (in that order), with Wonder Woman a distant fourth. If you're talking about substantive knowledge of the character, Wonder Woman is probably close to falling of the list because in the past 25 years (or however long it's been since Super-Friends went off the air) there really hasn't been any widely disseminated popular culture outlet for her stories other than comics (and the LU/JLU comics don't really count because they were aired on a specialty network specifically aimed at an already geek-culture inculcated crowd (as opposed to old network Saturday morning cartoons).
Outside the US, Spider-man is not all that well known outside of comic book circles, (Before the movies I mean). He got recognition for the 90's tv series but was more about image than story. People recognized the suit but not the character. The same was with Wonder Woman, but she was more famous than Spiderman as Spidey was more of a Kid's thing, while grown ups knew instantly who WW was and some knew her back story (the TV series origin). The X-men, Hulk and most of Marvel Superheroes were (again, before the movies) Not all that well known outside comic book and cartoon circles.
Overall Superman, Batman, Robin and Wonder woman were the most famous Superheroes outside the US (before the movies) as far as I can tell.

and you can't tell shit. your whole post is DC fanboism all the way. Spiderman is just as iconic as bats and supes even beofore the films. and Spidey is sure as hell more famous then wonder-woman. Give me a susbstantial amount of evidence to prove otherwise.
ugh, didn't foresee coming across a DC fanboy dumbass across these boards.
1. Superman
2. Batman
3. Spider-Man
After that, there's wolverine, wonder woman and the Hulk but I don't know what order they're in.
Amazing Spider-Man, Future Foundation, Captain America, The Invincible Iron Man, The Mighty Thor, The New Avengers, The Avengers, Batman Inc., Detective Comics, Green Lantern
Honestly I think spider-man and Batman are a tie.
I live in Latin America, I talk to people who live in Latin America, I am Latinoamerican. Is not Fanboysim, I have witness that people outside The US Didn't recognized Spider-man or most of Marvel characters outside Comic book circles and Cartoon circles before the movies. Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman had Live action appereances that made them more popular than the rest of the DC characters and Marvel characters who only had cartoon appereances.
And Spiderman is as Iconic as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, but this is about Fame, not Icons.

Superman is far more famous, and i think even Spider-Man is too. Spider-Man hits the big kid market which Bats doesn't nessecarily do unless he has a kids cartoon going on
Batman is probably right up there with Spider-Man, in terms of marketability. But if it came down to it, I'd guess Spider-Man has more widestream appeal. Superman might be as well known, but I wouldn't put him in the upper tier.
