I think the fact that they're publishing a great book will help them, actually. Not too worried about the interview.
My favorite part of the whole interview:
It's like Tom is here with us like some disembodied editor all the time!!!Q: And was it as bad as you were warning everyone it was going to be, Tom?
TB: At least the first couple of weeks after that last issue of "One More Day"...
SW:...before anyone read the comic...
TB: ...it was pretty bad. It's long since leveled off. It now tends to be the same guys, who are clearly passionate about it and love and care about Spider-Man, saying the same things over and over again. In many cases they don't even read the comic.![]()
And the part about the numbers is interesting.
Makes you wonder how many people went subscription.Quite honestly, while it is nice that fans are using numbers to boost whatever arguments they have, they don't have a full understanding of what Marvel's financial goals and expectations for the book are. Even the numbers they get are only best-guess estimates cobbled together based on rankings. They are a guess. And they are always wrong.
They are also just direct market numbers. We did a promotion online when we started Brand New Day where we offered a year's subscription for a bargain price. The response to that was overwhelming. We got a huge circulation spike from subscribers, and these are numbers you will never see online.
Everyone is saying the book will be cancelled any day now. I could float the book on my subscribers alone at this point.
Yes, it is always nice to watch the clock ticker go up and down, but the business discussions are internal, and fans are not privy to that. They don't have all the facts.

"After all, John McCain's led a very Biblical life. Like his namesake Cain, he is not afraid to go negative on a brother. Like John the Baptist, he paved the way for the new Messiah, and like Moses, he takes advice from a Bush who is going up in flames."- Stephen Colbert
It's part of a steady process of enlightenment on certain deluded people, towards the eventual realisation that their best course of action is to either jump back on board or get out of the way.
I know some of my Canadian friends did.
But that is exactly what I thought would happen. The subscriptions are probably huge because of the special deal.

Brand New Day is a success! Take that haters!! Bwahahaha
I don't hate Brand New Day. It's good to have Spidey back to normal after all the crap that had been piled on him all these years.
I *still* don't like One More Day, tho. I mean, Mephisto? Unless they have a story undoing that bit sometime in the future. Maybe Dr. Strange shows up and tells Meph how he knew what he was doing with Pete but allowed it for the good of the World. Perhaps capped by the revelation that the true cause of the separation was to prevent Spider-Girl's existence, since she was fated to destroy Mephisto or something. AND then Pete and MJ get back together anyway. Take that, you big red muppet.![]()
That's probably the best interview Wacker or Brevoort has done for the book, really answered a lot of my questions.
Anyone know what this means - has there been any buzz about Fraction being on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN that I've missed? Suppose it could just be wishful thinking on my part and Wacker was joking ["...I don't like"].What other writers and artists are you itching to get on the book?
SW: I'm pretty happy with who we've had.
Jim Lee, I like. Geoff I like. Bendis I like. Fraction...
