Default The Marvel 500s: How Many Are There?

"Uncanny X-Men" #500 is only the fifth Marvel comic to reach that auspicious issue number. CBR looks back on the publisher's history with re- numbering and re-launching to find out what other series have reached the milestone #500.

fun story, by my count X-Factor will have 200 issues with #47, Sept 2009 - I wonder if they will do anything?

If you count the current run as a continuation of the original, then Thor should be pretty close to #600 now, shouldn't it? The "Ragnarok" story was #580-something, wasn't it?

I believe they are only counting titles that have been published continually.

I love the big numbers, I'm more likely to buy a title if it is number 100 or above. I think I got so burnt by the B&W explosion and the Image explosion and all the stupid re-numbering gimmics that I have more faith in a longer running title.

How many books have never had any title switching or reboots attached that have big numbers? X-Men, Action, Batman and Detective - any others?

well I guess you have tio count what has been printed continuously (more or less) since the 60s. not many.
So, guess it's really just FF, X-Men, Avengers, Thor.
hulk, captain America, daredevil, should have made it, but guess it didn't work out that-a-way.

I hope that Daredevil goes back to its original numbering. 500 issues is a massive achievement, and since there have only been two volumes of DD, it would make sense. The problem with reinstating the original numberings for Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man and Thor is that they have had several relaunches each, and their runs have included different titles.

I would also like DC to return Wonder Woman to its original numbering. The most recent relaunch as issue 1 was pointless, and they are trying to promote WW as an icon alongside Superman and Batman, both of whom star in two "big-number" titles each!

X-Men probably could use a relaunch in a couple more years if they run out of ground or Messiah Complex runs its course because I'm sure it will take that long as long as Joe and Axel are still around. They can blame the Skrull sleeper agents they didn't catch the first time so once again things are open for future retcons.

And Avengers #501 is coming soon to a shop near you. Possibly in 2011 just to sync up with the movie.

WW would have almost 580 issues. And, all around and different incarnations, justice league have reached +500 issues.

I thought Incredible Hulk would definitely be one of these 500s by now. It's really a shame there aren't more books even in the 250+ range. I read a column recently where the author had just organized his comics on an Excel spreadsheet and discovered he had THREE different Captain America #26! I think publishers are too quick to reboot a series (ala Runaways) for the cheap gimmick appeal of a #1 issue in exchange for the tradition and acheivements a book has established. There are so many reboot #1s now that they don't even appeal to me any more.
VALIANT, Saga, Manhattan Projects, Locke & Key, Hawkeye, Young Avengers.

Thor #13 I believe is Thor #600. First they indicated they knew about it, a year or two back, but since then, we've heard nothing.

    Why not DD too ?

I thought they just made a new volume numbering. Was DD canceled before starting with the second volume ?

It depends on if you count the eighteen or nineteen "Journey Into Mystery" issues that were published between THOR #502 and THOR v2 #1 or not. But, yeah, a case could be made for #13 (give or take) being #600
