Before the announcement at SDC, I felt that Cloak and Dagger would work well re-launched in a manga-influenced style. Looks like I wasn't the only one who thought that....
I'm hoping they'll try and entrench them in a more gothic/mystical/horror setting as well. The "let's bust up another crime ring" motif for them is overdone and probably wouldn't develop the characters any further from where they're at right now.

I have to say, I'm getting really f-ing sick of this "if it's not from the Neal Adams school, it's crap" theory of art criticism.

First let me say I am thrilled by the number of responses to this post. A few weeks back I posted a poll asking who Marvel should give a push in 2009 and C&D were the runaway (no pun intended) winners, so there is obviously a large and interested fan-base.

As far as these first preview images: Like any good comicbook, there needs to be a balance between the art and the story. I am more apt to worry about a fist time writer being given the book than I am to complain about an established artistic style. I seriously complained about the art in the new Last Defenders book when it was first previewed, but it has grown on me and I believe it fits the tone of the series very well. Also remember, these may have been the very first pics of C&D ever drawn by the artist. So while I am not "thrilled" with the art, I am willing to give it some time, see how the artist matures with the characters and determine how it balances out the eventual story.

On a seperate note: Does anyone recognize the purple-haired girl from the images? Someone mentioned Dusk, but I don't think I have ever seen her outside of her "shadow" appearance, so any input would be appreciated.

I absolutely hate that Dagger's been made to look like a 12 year old Pokemon trainer. **** that noise.

I like Manga/Anime to stay on their side of the bookshelf, please.

We can have asian and asian-influenced art without having to resort to cutesy anime chicks. Take a look at the Udon series of titles for Marvel a few years back. I'd love to see a version they'd do for C&D. The guy from SM Luvs MJ? For C&D? That's totally missing the point of the existing C&D mythos.

He already drew them in one of the Runaways arcs and I thought it was perfectly fine, besides he's not doing the interior art.

The artist is going to be a female illustrator by the name of Irene who drew these:

It's not all that cutesy looking really and as long as it's well drawn and fits the story she's trying to write then that's enough for me.

It's not the same perons its another artist with a similair look. The artist is a woman. I forgot the name (i think it's an interesting that they chose to have a female writer teamed up with a female artist which is somewhat rare).

I'm sorry, I'm just cracking up at the phrase "Cloak & Dagger mythos."

I'm envious that you can get a laugh out of it. This thread's sadness is pervading my very soul.

Default CCI: D’Orazio talks “Cloak & Dagger”

Cult-favorite characters Cloak & Dagger return next year in a five-issue miniseries that forces them to confront new villains as well as their own conflicts with each other. CBR News spoke with writer Valerie D’Orazio about the book.

Glad to see Cloak and Dagger finally get their own book. Thought their appearances in Runaways and Civil War would give 'em some limelight.

Is it me or does the writer seem like she may separate the two by the end of the miniseries?

I'd like to see them cross paths with the NYX kids, New Warriors and Counter-Force.

For the longest time, I had a pitch for this book brewing in the back of my head.

Good to know someone decided to pick up these characters and do something with them.

Will probably give it a chance but... maaaaannn, why does it have to be a "romance?!"

Isn't Cloak's addiction to Dagger's light already an allegory for... his addiction to Dagger? Do we need to spell it out?

Not a fan of the art either.

Sorry to be so negative. I hope to be proven wrong. :)

Well, if she does think she's going to seperate them, theres no way in hell thats going to last.

They'll be back together by the next appearance or the one after that.

It's Cloak and Dagger, man....Cloak and Dagger.

This isn't like getting a magical divorce, that would be understandable but these are two characters that are created in their very concept to be in unison.

It's fine if this is an illusion of change thing to explore different sides of them but as a lasting status quo change, it would just seem kind of strange.

All that said, loving the art, I'm guessing all the mangaphobes that prefer everyones drawn like GI Joe are going to be really bagging on this mini though.
