Default Guitar Hero & Resident Evil

Saw the preview for Resident Evil 5. I'm highly underwhelmed. This makes me sad as a longtime fan of the RE games.

Also, because I live under a rock, I was only recently introduced to the wonders of Guitar Hero. It was at a GH-themed birthday party last weekend. Of course the honey & I loved it. Since the paycheck is now officially in, we are buying our first GH game this weekend.

You may never hear from me again.

    Guitar Hero. Resident Evil. Discuss.

RE5 looks like RE4 with way more enemies. I think it will be fun but not as surprising as RE4.

Guitar Hero is fun for a good while. Not as groundbreaking as many would have you believe, though.

Get Rock Band over Guitar Hero. It's by the original GH team, has drums and vocals along with guitar, has new songs you can buy and download every week, and just plain has better note charts than the last couple GH games.

RE's just morphed into another generic war game.

What was up with RE4, anyhow? We went from science based biotech monsters to what, a european voodoo-type cult? How does that even make sense? I never played 4 because it just didn't even seem like the same universe, at all.

Can anyone who knows it better explain it to me?

I played it, but it was my least favorite of the series so far. I really hate where it's going. It was still Umbrella-created zombies if I remember correctly (once I finish a game, I delete much of it from my memory banks), but the story was really lame. And that girl that you have to protect through most of the game? I wanted to throw her out a friggin' window. Whoever came up with that idea needs to be smacked.

I'm about half way through RE4, but I just stopped. Haven't touched it in months, I'll get back to it eventually. But yeah that girl is annoying as hell, how can annyone be so helpless, I think she wants to be captured.

Right? What's the point of that character, anyhow? How did they come up with that?

"Hey, you know what really brings out the protective instincts in people? Playing zombie games. That's what people who play zombie games really want to do, is protect helpless characters with no ai whatsoever that serve no purpose but to get in the way just as you're trying to shoot a zombie. That'll be awesome!"

Make her fight back or something. At least when you had a similar scenario in Silent Hill 4, you could give her a weapon and she could do some damage until you could help her.

So the whole damned thing is an escort mission? Looovely.

From what I've read, they killed the Umbrella angle entirely, no more virus monsters, and replaced the whole thing with this never-before-seen cult. Do they even have a motivation for kidnapping the daughter of a president of the US? How'd they do that in the first place without her Secret Service detachment protecting her? And wouldn't rescuing her be a job for professionals, like military ops or something? Why send a solo guy in?

The whole thing seems to me like a completely different game with the RE name and a previous character pasted on for the pretense of continuity where there was none. Is that the case, or does it flow better within the game and make more sense?

Yeah, I never finished that one (but she bugged me too.) That's another series I loved that just went down the toilet. I finished SH: Origins a little while ago, but it was kinda meh. I was really hoping that Sony would have dropped the price on the PS3 though, since I heard some good things about Devil May Cry 4.

Honestly, I question the act of playing any RE game for the story. The stories have always sucked. Much like the control. Until RE4.

I prefer RE4 because it has great gameplay and an awesome arcade feel, especially when you beat the game and unlock the Mercenaries time attack stages.

I thought there was a smidge Umbrella mentioned, but I can't remember. I know Wesker was involved, so maybe it was just implied. For the most part, it was some parasite-mind control thing. But yeah, the only thing similar are the characters from previous games. Other than that, it was kinda lame.

Truth to tell, there has never been a game that really impressed me with story, but with RE, I took it with a grain of salt. I mean, it's a zombie story, how complex does it need to be? Zombies bad. Kill zombies. Run from zombies when gun goes "click."

Yeah, SH4 was definately the weakest of the bunch for me. I loved the song Room of Angels (?) from it though. Don't have a PSP so can't play origins. I;ve since played the first Fatal Frame, I gotta build up the courage to start the second one.

RE4 is the first/only resident evil I've played so I don't really know much about the story beforehand.
