As shared at HBO's "True Blood" panel at Comic-Con, vampires are coming out of the closet now that they have the Tru Blood synthetic blood drink, described by producer Alan Ball as like a combo of V8, Valium, Vicodin, and Viagra.

I gotta say I do not get HBO at home, and was not much interested in this show before I was assigned to the panel.
But after watching some of their video blogs, and attending the panel, I'm totally hooked. The cast really got along well, there was a real sense of purpose and planning, nothing was sloppy, the acting looked good, and I suspect this is going to be a really solid show for a long time.
Now I have to either get HBO, or rent the DVD when it comes out.

I saw the pilot mostly cause my siblings almost raved about it.
It was lame to the core.
The tiny vamp fangs must be the lamest vamp thing i have ever seen/read about....
Anyone thinking of watching the new show?
What's to think about? If you get HBO, why not check it out?
I admit, it will make for a nice change. It's been a while since HBO premiered a new original series I have any even remote interest in. Call me crazy, but shows about people going to their therapist just don't appeal to me.
I read the first book that this series is based off of, you I suppose I'll give it a watch. When's it premering?
"My former associate has a thing for bats? You took up a pipe to quit smoking cigarettes? Wait, howzabout - holy mistaken identity!"

So the vampires get a pass for all the people they killed prior to the invention of this synthetic blood?
you know I asked that question on another board
The Book dont go into thier pass killings to much, kind of something that not brought up in polite conversation I guess.
but from what I heard from reader of the book they do mention
Vamps CAN survive on animal blood. It just when the first turn the go wild, but if someone can hold them down and let them chill and cool off for a while they calm down. Kind of like detoxing

The books are awesome, there is eight of them so far. I am stoked for the series, especially Eric. He is spot on casting, exactly how I pictured him.
When's it start. Alan Ball is a great writer, and can't wait to give the show a shot.
We'd like to wish EZMOHR all the best in his future....ah forget it.
I believe the premiere is September 7, 2008.
I"ve seen the pilot and liked it very much.
Complaints about the size of the fangs don't make a lot of sense to me. The fangs look plenty long enough to pierce the skin and vein, and btw are in a more logical place than the usual bicuspids (or "eye teeth").
The acting was top-knotch, but of course it was the pilot. Shows need time to "settle in." Look a the first episodes of almost any show and you can see how they change. Not having read the books, I cannot compare but the idea seems very clever and there are lots of interesting questions left to be answered--not least whether there are other supernatural beings (I got a strong but subtle sense that the answer is "Yes!")?
BTW, I have to truly wonder whether vampires in this world need to kill a human for blood. In fact, I got the impression that they didn't--but that at least some of them (maybe most) did or do.
Oh yes. There are Werewolves, Weres/Shifters who can only change into one type of animal, from Panther to Fox and true shifters which can turn into any animal they choose.Only one of those has been introduced thus far. And witches and faeries have also been introduced.
I THINK I got them all ;)
The newer vampires need to, but as they get older they need less and less. Eric, who is over 1,000 years old is said to only need a sip.
But of course, there are always accidents, and vampires who are greedy.
