    Default X-POSITION: Dave Cockrum Tribute

On sale this month is "X-Men: Odd Men Out," featuring unpublished work by legendary artist Dave Cockrum. In this special X-POSITION, longtime Marvel creators reminisce about the man who made the X-Men what they are today.

Some very nice sentiments and observations of his work as an artist. A lot of people get hung up in his innovative designs, but he was also a damn good story teller.

Nice sentiments. But that's some amazing art.

It's gonna be great for new readers to get something of a recap of the history of the X-Men.

At least up to the point where the cut-off is due to when the story was written.

Yeah but it includes the "Jean wasn't Phoenix" retcon which really isn't valid anymore.

They should have changed that before they printed it. Or would that have been disrespectful?

EDIT-- I guess the story takes place when the X-Men would have still believed the retcon version of events but still it might confuse new readers.

Dave Cockrum--one of my favorite X-artists of them all! Dave also created an army of characters and drew more covers for Uncanny X-Men than any other artist.

Dave lives on in my heart. He is not forgotten.

Anyone who's interested in the life of Dave Cockrum should run out and buy the latest copy of Alter Ego (#78), which was a tribute issue to Dave.

You can also buy a pdf of the issue online for $2.95.

    No, that's John Byrne.

(Actually I have heard that while Bryne is difficult to work with, he is nice to fans.)

Truthfully, I've never heard Cockrum was anything but gracious to both co-workers (though I'm sure he had his moments as everyone does) and fans.

But that's all I've heard, others may have heard different.

No, and when a thread is titled, "Dave Cockrum Tribute," it isn't the place to just casually throw such comments out there for your own personal edification. That, to me, would be the dictionary definition of a major tool.

How about showing some respect, instead?

Oh okay I wasn't sure if it was Bryne or Cockrum. I guess I'll take your word for it then. :)

You have to understand the demographics of most of the posters here. They are new young comic book readers, and don't know the first thing about what they are talking about, they just think they do. Cut them a little slack, they don't know anything about how talented the writers and artists are who keep the comic books they enjoy in production. Without the creators, there are no comic books, least the fans never forget this fact.

yes, go take a look at the "how long have you been reading x-men" thread and say that again. Yes, we're all new young comic book readers... sigh.

Cockrum was an amazing artist and this looks to be a great showcase.

    lulz.

Byrne is just as bad to fans. Go over to his message board and say anything. It's like TICK TICK BOOM.
