OMG, that's too funny. They're just so appalled. Strange to remember a time when America thought sushi was "exotic," lol.
Getting back to that Mystique question of a page ago... What are people's opinions about why the connection between them was never emphasized or expanded upon? Was it just because Mystique already had the thing with Rogue? Or was it just plain uncreativeness on the part of writers? I mean, even the "Children in the Attic" What If? was really all about Rogue and Mystique--Kurt and Mystique had, I think, only one panel together.
I'm posting this pic not because it does anything to answer my question, but rather the sake of both Kurt's Adidas track pants and pirate shirt. :P

Pirate shirt FTW. If a man ever wore a pirate shirt on a date with me, that would seal the deal, haha.
I don't understand why everybody loves sushi so much. It's just so...bleh. Sushi rice is yummy, though.
I think the reason Kurt and Mystique's relationship was never expanded upon is because it's just so complex and awkward. Personally that's why I love it so much, but I can understand it being difficult to write. I mean, Kurt didn't meet her until he was already grown, and she's a super villain. It's a very complicated situation.

I dunno but I herad more than one writer (Lobdell, Asmus ect) speak of interferance with Kurt getting any decent focus when he tries to play in the main X-Verse. Maybe he should go back to England for real respect. Rogue was getting so overblown and boring in the 90's and in X-Treme I was getting so sick of her and the "southern belle" thing. And her relationship with Raven is way played out. Marvel is all about regergetating now, nothing real new and fresh short of spilling blood. And they hardly ever even shown Kurt and Rogue have a conversation about her. Heck, X-Men Evo did more with that. Obviously Cartoon writers saw the potential.
Pirate Kurt you say? How about midevil Kurt?

I like the complicated-ness, too. But like I said a few pages ago, it's sad if the fact that it's complicated makes people not want to write it. Shouldn't that kind of thing be a writer's dream...? Sigh...
It did always seem to me that there had to be some kind of editorial mandate going on. I mean, an easy opportunity for overblown melodrama that Marvel does nothing to capitalize on? That is just... inexplicable. And speaking of Evo (which I seem to have become some kind of cheerleader for, of late), here's some Kurt/Rogue/Mystique from Evo comics. Rogue uses Mystique's powers to lie to Kurt about how much Mystique cares about him. You'll have to make your own decision about whether that's a nice thing to do or a not... At least her heart's in the right place (?).
Also--that Renaissance Fair Kurt was awesome. The X-Men don't do nearly enough Medieval roleplay (you know, compared to their buddies in Star Trek: TNG, anyway, lol).
On the thing with Mystique -- I think part of it is clear preference for pushing Rogue and her drama. Editorial hasn't had a great deal of interest in Nightcrawler in a long time.
I think part of it is that the whole Kurt/Mystique storyline was a cliff-hanger for so long before it was finally explained. I mean she dropped that line about him not being as unique as he might think waaay back, and it wasn't elaborated on until the 90's, and that poorly done. Add to it the poorly received additions from Draco, and most writers didn't want to touch it. It was amazing to me how many writers and fans decided to pretend like the Draco never happened, rather than just trying to clarify it. I mean I get that people didn't care for it, and I know at least some of the reasons why. (One thing that sticks in my mind with it (and it's pretty small) is Azzy's reference to a long-term "closeness" to Margali with all its implications and the fact that Jimaine and Stefan's father was never stated. ) The arc would generally have worked better if Austen either decided he was a demon out-right, or if he decided he was just another mutant without making him the historical base for Satan.
It seems like there was far more material for writing about with Kurt and Mystique than with Mystique and Rogue. /shrug
Considering the popularity of the original AoA arc, with Kurt and Mystique actually having a close relationship, I think the interest is there, it just needs a writer who is willing to navigate the Azazel bomb (and of course a resurrected 616 Kurt).
This is the exact reason I prefer movie!Azazel over the comics. He's just another mutant. And Russian.
But yeah, I think the relationship between Kurt and Mystique could be elaborated, and maybe even turned into something beautiful in a strange way, unlike the drama with Rogue. Kurt cares about Mystique, and although she hides it well, she cares about him, too. I think Kurt would be pissed off if he knew Logan killed Mystique (the Hand brought her back, of course, but the people they always bring people back wrong).

Let's not forget the ramifications of Graydon Creed being his biological half-brother.It seems like there was far more material for writing about with Kurt and Mystique than with Mystique and Rogue. /shrug
I like to think of him as being like Sean Conney's character in Highlander; a Caucasian with a Scottish accent, a Spanish sounding name but claims to be Egyptian. When you've been alive for so long you move around and reinvent yourself the way David Bowie does every decade or so.
Given Mystique's connection to the Hand who have demonstrated their ability to snatch bodies and resuscitate them, I wander if the "bamf" thing in W&TXM isn't a red herring and that the real Kurt is come outta left field in Uncanny X-Force under their influence at her side. Wouldn't see that coming. But yeah, I think the relationship between Kurt and Mystique could be elaborated, and maybe even turned into something beautiful in a strange way, unlike the drama with Rogue. Well, unless is does happen and you have read this post.

Since we are on the subject of Kurt and Mystique...
Here is a lovely picspam for the occasion.

Perhaps we can write some fanfic centered on the Kurt/Raven relationship? Im thinking of one myself, to expand on the scene in one of my Logurt fics. Or maybe I'll write it as a complete stand alone.
More art.
Uh, yeah... about that...

Aw snap! That would be awesome! The Hand are such convenient villains that way--I love how it's perfectly okay to kill entire armies of them until it's someone you actually care about who's been resurrected, at which point it always seems like it's pretty easy to snap out of it... Oh well. Comics, Everybody! Plus--Archer, Bowie, and Highlander refs all in one post? GOLD STAR.
And thanks for all those Mystique/Kurt pics D.Rogue!
You are so pushing the fic lately--I love it! Especially if it gets you writing... ;) For myself, I don't know if I could write Mystique... She makes as little sense to me in her motivations, etc. as just about anyone I can think of. I did make a feeble effort at some point to try and figure out what her deal could possibly be, but she's so contradictory that I gave up and now I just think about her as sort of irredeemably crazy. I think she may suffer/have suffered from male comic book writers' difficulties writing a "strong" woman of any complexity... But I dunno. /shrug
