    Default Marvel Cosmic

Anybody else reading Rann-Thanagar: Holy War from DC?

I've never read DC, but since I've heard people over here mention how good DC cosmic is, I decided to give it a try. I'm really enjoying it, and it's making me want Jim Starlin and Ron Lim back on Marvel cosmic titles.

Anybody else like to see Starlin and Lim come back to Marvel? Wouldn't it be great to see Marvel cosmic expand further?

Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova are both great, but I want more!

Before the Rann-Thanagar War mini-series in 2005, I never even picked up any DC cosmic titles. I picked up the trade during a buy-one-get-one sale at my LCS, along with the Mystery in Space with Captain Comet Vol. 1 trade, and I was pleasantly surprised. Since then I went back and picked up the Adam Strange: Planet Heist and Mystery in Space with Captain Comet Vol. 2 trades, so I could get some of the backstory for Rann-Thanagar Holy War. Overall, it kind of reminds me of Annihilation, only on a smaller scale. The Holy War mini is the only DC mini I am buying (with Jonah Hex being the only DC ongoing I buy).

the starlin/lim stuff from the silver surfer in the early 90's was awesome...you should go back and look for some of that, you can find much of it for very cheap...

i'd argue that might be some of starlin's best work, but then i'll have to go back and read the warlock/captain marvel/thanos stuff from the late 70's which was just awesome...

Does Marvel honestly have that big of a cosmic sector? I mean, GoG and Nova seems to encompass a lot of the more of the "doable" characters already (forces of nature/reality don't really make for good stories).

The Annihilation books would also be included although I think Comet Man read those already.

I've got all the books you mention there, Starlin was great in the 70's, but he also hit a nice stride in the early 90's... and I really enjoyed Lim's run on the Surfer too.

Historically speaking, the FF has had a lot of cosmic content. That's where almost every major cosmic property originated.

I'm agree with you Comet Man, Rann-Thanagar: Holy War is very cool despite I don't like the recent starlin stuff and I don't know to much about dc comics, there are also Green Lantern and the recent crossover "Sinestro War" from DC, it's very cool and remind me Annihilation, the regular serie of Green Lantern is in my opinion the best serie from DC.

For Ron Lim, he have recently do lot of works for Marvel like Anita Blake or the current mini "Iron man, Legacy of doom" a very great mini, but I hope we will come back in a Marvel cosmic title, I know that for Annihilation the editor say that they don't want Ron Lim because they want a new style for cosmic title, Ron Lim is too well know and they want some new blood despite his amazing work in Thanos 7-12: Samaritan (for me it's the intro of Annihilation), he is surely one of my favorite penciller and for me it's him who give the soul of the Silver Surfer and no other (despite I really like the buscema work with the character).

I hope that Marvel give more place for cosmic title because it's the for me their greatest books, Dc do lot of work for promote and keep Green Lantern, but Marvel seem don't really care for their cosmic title, I really would like to have a Captain Marvel serie, a Quasar, Adam Warlock or regular silver surfer series, Marvel have the best cosmic characters in my opinion, they have the greatest stories, I think just some fews promo and they can easily to be in the top seller.

Comet Man, it would be great to have Ron Lim and again Starlin in Captain Mar-vell regular serie, I really want that !!! The art of Ron Lim with Mar-vell was great in his few apperance in some cosmic title in the 90's.

I was a huge cosmic Marvel fan back in the 90's. Starlin really had a great grasp of it, and Annihilation missed a lot because he wasn't involved.

I had high hopes with the Starlin Thanos that was launched a couple years back. And it was good, until he abruptly left. Giffen's issues were bizarre, full of weird alien slang, and generally not very good. I wasn't surprised it was cancelled with #12.

He rebounded some with the Drax mini, which I enjoyed. The first Annihilation minis were hit and miss, as I don't think Giffen ever found a voice for Silver Surfer, which should have been the best of the beunch but was one of the worst. It would have been, had Ronan not been so bad. Nova was good, Super Skrull was the best but unfortunately had extremely cartoony artwork.

The Annihilation mini itself was pretty good, though I'm not a fan of DiVito's art. Pretty much everyone looks the same.

I didn't read the Conquest Minis. The main Conquest series was very good, until the finale, which was a tremendous let down. That, coupled with the presence of a talking Raccoon and Grunge Warlock, kept me from getting Guardians of the Galaxy.

And gawd, what the heck happened to Moondragon? They turned her into an actual dragon and gave her an awkward lesbian relationship? Ugh.

So yeah, I miss Starlin on Marvel's cosmic titles.

Those late '80s and early '90s Surfer issues were great to read. I would love to see Starlin and especially Lim come back to Marvel. Lim is one outstanding artist.

I'm going to have to search for the Rann-Thanagar: Holy War series you're all talking about.

I figure Starlin will come back in a few years, just like he always has in the past.

Even though I love the guy's stuff, I don't mind if it's a little while before he returns, though. When he's returned after breaks in the past, it's yielded some pretty great stuff -- like that Surfer run and of course Infinity Gauntlet. And really, the Thanos series wasn't very good; maybe after Infinity Abyss (which I liked) and The End (which I didn't) he was kind of burnt out on the character. I don't mind seeing new writers take a stab at some of the characters (even though a couple of 'em have died and stuff). I think Drax, for example, has benefited from a return to his original attitude rather than Starlin's use of him in the '90s.

I'm over all a big Starlin fan, but I'm a huge Thanos/Capt.Marvel(yes I'd be very happy if they'd bring him back)/Surfer/Warlock fan, and he's done alot with those characters, however after Marvel the End, and his first part of the Thanos ongoing/maxi series, I'm a little weary. I have Holy War, just havent read it yet. I actually thought the second part of the Thanos series eclipsed the first, and The End was just kinda ehh, for me. But I guess I'd give him another shot, after all a couple bad stories out of, well, how many? Isn't bad.

Sounds like we're in the same boat, Wayne. So should I go back and get those issues you mentioned before continuing with Holy War? I didn't even realize there was another Rann-Thanagar war before this one.

Hell yeah, there's room for more! I think Captain Marvel should have a series, along with Silver Surfer, and I think Marvel really needs to bring back Comet Man. That character has so much potential with his connection to the Fortisquians.

Yep, that's one of the first things I read when I came back to comics a few months ago. Loved it, and the last Annihilation.
    I seriously miss Captain Mar-Vell.

Starlin did Drax mini ? When ? before Annhiliation ?

I had never read Marvel cosmic before Annihilation. Never enjoyed cosmic stories of DC either. I loved reading the first Annihilation event with Nova,Drax,Silver Surfer,Starlord etc

I never knew there was a interesting world and characters in cosmic marvel.
