There is alot of Bendis hate on these forums - its the cool thing to do. . Either you hate Bendis or you love him. He hardly fits in the happy medium. I usually chalk it up to the following theory.

If you want your comic books to read like a movie - Bendis is your guy. He kind've fits into the same tier as guys like Mark Millar. If you want your comic books to read like comic books, you probably won't like Bendis. I personally love the guy, but he won me over with his Daredevil work, and he pushes Luke Cage (a favorite of mine).

    Hows Avengers Academy?

I'm actually looking for a teen book to get into. I read Wolverine and the X-Men, but that is less of a "teen" book. I am interested in the young avengers and currently have their Ultimate Collection (#1-12) on the way from Amazon. However I've heard that Young Avengers doesn't go much anywhere after its initial 12 issues, and then pops back up in Childrens Crusade (which I've heard a variety of mixed reviews on). I've been looking into Geoff Johns Teen Titans, which stars one of my favorite character's (Tim Drake- Robin), however I've always been more comfortable in the Marvel U, than DC. Anyway, back to Avengers Academy. I'm a fan of Christos Gage's writing (from X-men Legacy), however I wasn't wowed by the last Avengers Academy issues I read (#21). Whats the general opinion on Avengers Academy? Should I give it another try, maybe form the beginning? Was that issue that I read particularly bad and out of the norm?

    Thanks

Will the current Invincible Iron Man series (Vol. 5) also be rebooted/resetted in the course of "Marvel NOW!"?
    Haven't found anything specific...

Nevertheless: Is it a good idea to read Vol. 5 of Invincible Iron Man without any further background knowledge except that Tony Stark is a billionaire playboy and brilliant engineer who built his suit?
If so, should I start with #1 or with 500.1? (There aren't really many issues inbetween - 33 right?)

Yes, but the new creative team has yet to be announced. There are rumours it's Kieron Gillen, a favourite of mine.

Yes, as long as you don't mind slow pacing.

Start with #1. His best stories were at the beginning of his run, he burnt out a bit after Fear Itself (around #500 ).

Planning to pick up the New Avengers Omnibus. I don't have many Marvel books, but Spider-Man is my favorite hero, and Carnage: Family Feud made a couple references to New Avengers that I figured I should go back and read that. However, the Avengers Omnibus is cheaper on Amazon.

I've never read or really followed any Avengers series (I mean, I've read the odd issue here or there) since Bendis is so deep in his run that it would be too hard to catch up. So I'm just waiting until Marvel NOW and I'll start from there.

I normally read Avengers assembles reprints in the UK but for the first time I'm buying the USA versions as they come, I pre-ordered Uncanny avengers # 1,2, are they familiar?

Avengers academy started off great, but started losing steam after a while. If I want to start reading the main avengers comic, where should i start reading from?

Wait until the first issue of the Marvel NOW! relaunch comes out. It has a great new creative team.

If you can't wait that long, I suggest trying Avengers Assemble vol 1 by Kurt Busiek and George Perez (amongst others).
