For old school epic Avenger titles, I can't recommend Kang Dynasty by Busiek highly enough. It rocks your red hot chili pepper socks off.

Has Roger Stern's Hulk run ever been collected?
I'd just like everyone to know that not only am I dropping Marvel, I'm dropping this forum considering I'm not even allowed to voice a negative opinion because a thread "isn't about me".

Skipping Fear Itself is a pretty good idea lol.

I suggest reading these to catch up on the Avengers. I've included a mix of stuff that's important (i.e. events) and stuff that's actually good (e.g. Avengers: The Initiative). I've included a line break at each event.

    Civil War
    The Death of Captain America
    Mighty Avengers: Assemble
Thor by J Michael Stracynzki vol 1
    Avengers: The Initiative vol 1
    Avengers: The Initiative vol 2
    World War Hulk
    Avengers/Invaders

    Secret Invasion
    Avengers: The Initiative vol 3
    Dark Avengers vol 1
    Mighty Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Thor by J Michael Stracynzki vol 2
    Mighty Avengers: The Unspoken
Thor by J Michael Stracynzki vol 3
    Thor: Latverian Prometheus
    Captain America: Reborn
    Mighty Avengers: Siege

    Siege
    Avengers: The Initiative: Siege
    Avengers Prime
    Iron Man/Thor: God Complex
    Thor: The World Eaters
    Avengers vol 1
    Avengers vol 2
Mighty Thor vol 1: The Galactus Seed

    Fear Itself
    Journey Into Mystery: Fear Itself
    Fear Itself: The Fearless
    Avengers vol 3
    Avengers: The Children's Crusade
    Avengers: X-Sanction

    You're welcome!

By the way, even if you're skipping Fear Itself, do yourself a favour and get Journey Into Mystery: Fear Itself and Fear Itself: The Fearless. They're excellent, and don't require you to have read the main event.

Not sure where you live, but you may also want to check out your local library.

The ones in my area have large comic/gn selections.

To add to that, the Avengers Academy FI tie in is really good too and does not require you to really read the main book.

Avengers Academy isn't so important to catching up but it is a really good series. And features Quicksilver, Pym, Tigra and now Hawkeye (now) working out of the west coast avengers compound training young heroes.

Another great way to "catch up" is a Marvel digital Unlimited Subscription. A HUGE archive of Avengers and others, i think its like 50-60 bucks a year. And has stuff as recent as a year ago. (sometimes more recent)

I've found that libraries are great for taking naps, especially when you're between "house" or kicked out of your current arrangement.

Telos suggestions above are great. I haven't read Fearless, but the reviews are that it's far better than the event it spun out of.

Am I the only one who enjoyed it? I didn't see it so much as an event, as opposed to just a Thor and the Avengers storyline. It makes it read far more enjoyable than what a lot of jaded people have been complaining about, and I say this as a avid Fraction-basher. In fact, I've enjoyed it so much, I've began to pick up The Mighty Thor and re-picking up Invincible Iron Man. I also enjoyed some of the side stories, like what they had in New Mutants and the Uncanny X-Men issues (which has become so much better since fraction left, imo)
There are four stages of matter. Solid. Liquid. Gas & Don't. It's science.
I am a male. Deal with it.
