i wonder when the HULK figure from hottoys are coming out! its gonna be SICK!!
Guys i am about to order a lot of Avengers books starting from Disassembled and wondered when i came to the Main Events like House of M, should i be buying the main House of M book or buy the House of M: Avengers book?
The same applies to
New Avengers Volume 5: Civil War
New Avenger: Secret Invasion book 1 and 2
Siege: New Avengers and Dark Avengers
Basically do i buy the side issues or would i get away with just buying the Main book.
Just buy the main event, forget the side issues. Often they are not as good as the main book.
Thanks again mate.
You're a legend.
That will save me a bit of money as that is six books i dont have to buy. I dont want to miss anything but the reason i asked was from what i have learned in about side issues they dont usually seem worth the money. I have so much to learn but this site is definitely helping.
Thanks.
edit
I have been reading through this whole thread and honestly i am getting a bit annoyed at the amount of tie ins these events have. It certainly isn't easy for a newcomer to be able to follow.
Telos,
I found your post #324 http://forums.comicbookresources.com...vengers/page22 in this thread suggesting the essentials and its a great help but with the amount of tie ins and different branches of Avengers its a bit of a pain for a newcomer like myself.
I certainly understand that the objective of these tie ins are to make money but damn, It isn't exactly beginner friendly. Anyway as i said i have used your order from post #324 but added a few titles and wondered if the reading order i have added the titles in looks right?
I also
Avengers Disassembled
New Avengers vol 1: Breakout
New Avengers vol 2: The Sentry
House of M
Civil War
The Death of Captain America vol 1-3
Thor vol 1
Mighty Avengers vol 1: The Ultron Initiative
Mighty Avengers vol 2: Venom Bomb
Invincible Iron Man: The Five Nightmares
New Avengers: Illuminati
Secret Invasion
Dark Avengers vol 1
Thor vol 2
Mighty Avengers: Earth's Mightiest - (Mighty Avengers: Dark Reign - I dont like Hardback so decided to add the three TPB's that are in the hardback version. Earths Mightiest, The Unspoken and Siege: Mighty Avengers)
Mighty Avengers: The Unspoken
Thor vol 3
Thor: Latverian Prometheus
Captain America: Reborn
Siege: Mighty Avengers
Siege
Sorry for being a pain i am sure this is the last thing you want to have to do when you come on here is rehash questions guys have probably asked numerous times.

No worries, mate! It's not a bother
Yeah, tell me about it. One of the reasons I'm so active on this thread is because I know from experience that Marvel doesn't make it easy for new readers.
That list I posted is pretty extensive - you probably don't need all of it to catch up on the Avengers. The books I added mostly delve into the details - for instance, why Thor is absent from Civil War but in Secret Invasion, how Captain America came back to life just before Siege, that sort of stuff.
If you want to stick to the really bare essentials:
Avengers Disassembled
New Avengers vol 1: Breakout
New Avengers vol 2: The Sentry
Civil War
New Avengers vol 6: Revolution (sorry, I forgot to add this in earlier)
Mighty Avengers vol 1: The Ultron Initiative
New Avengers vol 7: The Trust
Mighty Avengers vol 2: Venom Bomb
New Avengers: Illuminati
Secret Invasion
Dark Avengers vol 1
Mighty Avengers: Earth's Mightiest
Mighty Avengers: The Unspoken
Siege: Mighty Avengers
Siege
I can afford to go more than just the bare essentials, I have £260 which is around $400 to spend on this so getting the right books are more important than the money that's why i haven't ordered any Avengers titles yet because i want to get this right. I will add that from what i have been reading i also wanted to possibly get some Iron Man books like Demon in a Bottle, Extremis, Armor Wars, Haunted, Invincible Iron Man vol 1 and 2. Actually the more i think about it i may have to get some hardcover books simply because i have struggled to track down certain TPB's.
I also have Planet Hulk and World War Hulk that's already in my collection and will be on my reading list. I think it's a bit OCD on my part that i like to have everything in place before i do anything. Stupid but hey that's me.
Eventually i'd like to have a full reading list together so i dont have to worry about what's next and just enjoy the books. I have noticed a few other reading order's you have been kind enough to put up for other user's in this thread so i'll go through them too and have a look. I really like the look of the Thor books they look awesome.
So if i started from Disassembled it would look like
Avengers: Disassembled
Secret War
New Avengers Volume 1: Breakout
New Avengers Volume 2: Sentry
House of M
Civil War
The Death of Captain America vol 1-3
Thor vol 1
New Avengers vol 6: Revolution
Mighty Avengers vol 1: The Ultron Initiative
New Avengers vol 7: The Trust
Mighty Avengers vol 2: Venom Bomb
Invincible Iron Man: The Five Nightmares
Secret Invasion
Dark Avengers vol 1
Thor vol 2
Mighty Avengers: Dark Reign
Thor vol 3
Thor: Latverian Prometheus
Captain America: Reborn
Siege
Avengers: The Initiative: Siege
Avengers Prime
Iron Man/Thor: God Complex
Thor: The World Eaters
Avengers vol 1
Avengers vol 2
Mighty Thor vol 1: The Galactus Seed
Fear Itself
Journey Into Mystery: Fear Itself
Fear Itself: The Fearless
Avengers vol 3
Avengers: The Children's Crusade
Avengers: X-Sanction
I couldn't trouble you to show me where Planet Hulk, World War Hulk, Demon in a Bottle, Iron Monger, Extremis, Armor Wars, Haunted, War Machine, Hypervelocity, Deadly Solutions, Invincible Iron Man vol 1 and 2 would fit into the timeline could i?

Yep, your reading order is mostly correct! I've made a few minor alterations but you've got the gist of it. Here's what it looks like with the books you listed added in.
Iron Man: Demon in a Bottle
Iron Man: Iron Monger
Iron Man: Armor Wars
Iron Man: War Machine
Iron Man: Deadly Solutions
Avengers: Disassembled
Secret War
New Avengers Volume 1: Breakout
New Avengers Volume 2: Sentry
Planet Hulk (I can't remember if it's before or after House of M, but it's definitely before Civil War)
House of M
Civil War
The Death of Captain America vol 1-3
New Avengers vol 6: Revolution
Mighty Avengers vol 1: The Ultron Initiative
New Avengers vol 7: The Trust
Mighty Avengers vol 2: Venom Bomb
Iron Man: Haunted
Iron Man: Hypervelocity
World War Hulk
Thor vol 1
Invincible Iron Man vol 1 (first half takes place before Secret Invasion, second half takes place after)
Secret Invasion
Dark Avengers vol 1
Thor vol 2
Mighty Avengers: Dark Reign
Thor vol 3
Thor: Latverian Prometheus
Captain America: Reborn
Siege
Invincible Iron Man vol 2 (first half takes place concurrently with Siege, second half takes place after)
Avengers: The Initiative: Siege
Avengers Prime
Iron Man/Thor: God Complex
Thor: The World Eaters
Avengers vol 1
Avengers vol 2
Mighty Thor vol 1: The Galactus Seed
Fear Itself
Journey Into Mystery: Fear Itself
Fear Itself: The Fearless
Avengers vol 3
Avengers: The Children's Crusade
Avengers: X-Sanction
I should let you know that Invincible Iron Man: The Five Nightmares contains some of the same issues as the Invincible Iron Man vol 1 hardcover. Don't buy The Five Nightmares if you don't want duplicates.
Yeah i noticed that about Invincible Iron Man when i was looking at the trade reading order website. I tried to PM you but i must not have PM'ing privileges yet because i cant edit my profile or anything.
It was just a PM to say how much i appreciate you taking the time to do this for me mate. I certainly would be lost without this thread, site and help i have received. It makes me glad i joined the site.

Yeah, unfortunately the site doesn't let new users send or receive private messages until they've reached 20 or 25 posts. It's supposed to stop spammers, but I find it very annoying to be honest.
Thanks a lot! It's good to know my efforts, and this website, are helping someone out. Hope you decide to stay!
Looking through the list you posted i noticed that Extremis wasn't listed but would i be right in saying that it is just after House of M?
Anyway i have made my order but had to cut a few books. The books i cut were ones that i asked you to add like Secret War, Iron Man: Haunted, Iron Man: Hypervelocity, Director of SHIELD.
I didn't want to cut any of the ones you said were essential reading so i thought it was best to lose some of the ones i mentioned. I had mentioned them because i had read they were really good but i am sure i could pick them up at a later date. My order looked like:
Avengers: Disassemble
New Avengers Volume 1: Breakout
New Avengers Volume 2: Sentry
House of M
Iron Man: Extremis
The Death of Captain America vol 1-3
New Avengers vol 6: Revolution
Mighty Avengers vol 1: The Ultron Initiative
New Avengers vol 7: The Trust
Mighty Avengers vol 2: Venom Bomb
Thor vol 1
Invincible Iron Man vol 1
Secret Invasion
Dark Avengers vol 1
Thor vol 2
Mighty Avengers: Dark Reign
Thor vol 3
Thor: Latverian Prometheus
Captain America: Reborn
I will start my next order from Siege through to Avengers:X Sanction and will most likely pick up the Iron man books like Demon in a Bottle, Armor Wars etc at a later date. As i already own Planet Hulk, World War Hulk and Civil War i have plenty of reading to do until i get to Siege and honestly i cant wait to started. It's amazing how quickly the money runs out due to damn delivery costsIt's a pity i am not rich because i could have went crazy lol.
Books cant come quick enough.

Thought I would just post to let you know how I've gotten on;
Read all of the first Captain America omnibus and loved it, I've also already read Extremis and read through Civil War to tie in with Cap. Managed to find a copy of the death of Captain America omnibus over the weekend and I'm about half way through. I must admit the more I read the more I want to know/read more about other characters in the Marvel universe, which I'm quite enjoying. I keep hearing/reading good things about Journey into Mystery but I want to wait until I've caught upto Fear Itself before diving in there.
I just wondered would getting JMS vol1 be a good starting place for Thor? Would I need a lot of background knowledge?
Thanks again!
Yeah that's the one, I'm rather new to comics in general and I can't recommend that book enough. Reading the death of Captain America and the way Brubaker has built upto this makes me want to read more and more. My favourite issue in that omnnibus was actually the Winter Soldier: Winter Kills, the way Brubaker builds the character is s good.
If you're worried about the price I paid £43 which is about $67 and I don't regret it at all.
