my friend recommended me into trying out the New Avengers but im pretty confused because there seems to be so many Avengers crossovers
i believe there was a Avengers reboot a few yrs back right?
so where do i start from scratch?thanks

I'd recommend you buy the Avengers DVD rom- It has over 500 issues on it I believe and goes through issue 19 of the New Avengers series. These run for about 40 to 50 bucks but its a great deal. I'd recommend these to anyone that is trying to get into comics, or back into them.

read the 'Dissasembled' trade first, and then the 'Secret War' trade.

of course, you can completely skip the first two, I did and still love the series.
other trades of NA you might wanna look into are: Civil War: Disassembled (whenever that comes out), the one that deals with Sentry (guest stars galore!) and...the Ronin/Spider-Woman arcs.
'course, thats all the story's we've gotten pre-civil war.

The easiest starting point might just be Mighty Avengers 1, which just came out. That's the start of a brand new Avengers team.
As for the New Avengers.... a good starting point there might be the Disassmebled Story Avengers story arc trade paperback, followed by the Breakout tradepaper back.
Course, the new Avengers recently rebooted becaues of the Civil War event at New Avengers 27. That's also a descent starting point since only 2 issues have occurered since them.

Also, pick up Avengers: Red Zone and Hearts of Avalon. Those trades arent too heavy in continuity and features great art by Olivier Coipel.
Also, try out Ultimates. It''s like the Avengers, but for the new millenium,

Just start with Mighty Avengers #1 and New Avengers #26 and Avengers: The Initiative #1 and continue from there. You'll figure out what's going on in the present soon enough.
As for the past, in this thread I've listed all the trades that have ever been published and may still be available. Many libraries have trades now. Or you can start at the very beginning with the black & white Essentials volumes or the aforementioned 40 Years DVD-ROM.

I don't know... I think the fact that he doubled the number of Avenger team books he's writing is a pretty descent indicator he's not terribly uncomfortable writing them. Course, that's just my interpretation. Originally Posted by Shellhead

As for the Avengers prior that, they were totally different. If you're here for the New Avengers there's probably no reason to catch up on the Old Avengers. Personally I always thought the Old Avengers were lame.
