The upcoming X-Men/X-Factor Essentials really have me excited as we're moving into the era of the animated series where I was first exposed to the franchise.
Empty winds scrape on the soul never stop to realize/Animal whisperings intoxicate the night
Hypnotize the desperate slow motionlight/Wash away into the rain
Blood, milk and sky....
Depends on what you are looking for.
The Checker collection only did the Alex Raymond years.
The big IDW collections (first out, second coming soon) will include the Jungle Jim 'topper' done by Alex Raymond. This series will only do the Raymond years.
The Titan collection, I understand, will go beyond the Alex Raymond period. So it sounds like a good one to get if you just want Flash AND you'd like to go beyond Raymond.
I'm mainly interested in the Raymond Flash Gordon, although I haven't seen too much of any of the artists who followed him so my mind could be changed. Not much interested in Jungle Jim. So it sounds like the Checker or the Titan would be my best bet.
I am now excited about the upcoming Wally Wood and Al Williamson EC collections from Fantagraphics, after someone mentioned them in I think the horror comics thread.
Allan Holtz' enormous, encyclopedic reference work American Newspaper Comics is finally available. In the comic-strip-classics group, Allan wrote:
"There's a snafu with Amazon's listing of American Newspaper Comics, so
the book is not available there until they get it straightened out.
However, the publisher, University of Michigan Press, has bowed to my
whining about the Amazon situation. If you use the super-secret codeword
"COMICS" to purchase the book on their website, they'll give you 40% off
the cover price of the book, same or better than Amazon is expected to
offer when they finally get their act together!
Go to: http://www.press.umich.edu/titleDeta....do?id=2133963
It's listed as forthcoming there, because the main shipment of books is
still en route from the printer to the publisher's warehouse, but I'm
assured that orders will be going out forthwith."

As I noted a bit earlier on the "Meanwhile ..." thread, this is coming out in about a month --
& is described as featuringhigh-quality reproductions of the entire original series, as well as the hard-to-find sequel from 1994, rare and never-before-seen sketches, concept art, and test market materials. Also included are an introduction by series co-creator Len Brown and an afterword by Zina Saunders, daughter of the original artist, providing an insider’s behind-the-scenes view of the bizarre and compelling world of Mars Attacks.

I tend to split superhero comics fans into "People who like Krypto" and "People who don't like Krypto."
Basically, if you miss the wonder of a dog flying around in a little Superman cape, you're in the wrong hobby.

Another issue of Squa Tront is coming out. I think I missed the last one.

One that doesn't exist is a full-color retrospective of Lou Fine's work, especially his covers. I'd love to see that! (Pure Imagination apparently printed a couple of black-and-white ones in the 90s.)
Anyway, it is cool for you to acquire acrimony of crumbling time on blast this website.
