    Default Upcoming books of interest

Every now and then I come across books that I want. And that I think will be of interest to members of this forum. So I thought I'd start this thread and see where it leads.

Just came across this one via Locus Online. Not a lot of info as to the contents yet, but...I'm pretty darn sure I'll want it.

Nice... A book focusing on the comic book art of Frazetta is welcoming. People are sometimes more than familiar with his many Warren covers, and of course fantasy illustrations that have graced many a book cover or poster over the years, but he was every bit of an exciting cartoonist. And much of his relatively small output hasn't seen much in the way of reprint treatment. Not only the Famous Funnies Buck Rogers stuff, but his Ace McCoy and Johnny Comet strips have some sensational sequential art. Real classic stuff.

Yup - I'll be buying that one.

I was up at the Beguiling a few weeks' back and noticed quite a few different Frazetta collections (didn't note the publisher). Are we in the middle of some sort of renaissance period?

The Frazetta books have been coming out periodically for a few years.

I do think we're in one of the best periods I can remember for the publication of strip reprints and art books. With quality collections of Gasoline Alley, Thimble Theatre, Terry and the Pirates and Peanuts already coming out and with Pogo, Little Orphan Annie and Scorchy Smith on the horizon, it is a great time

Way past due that this gem from the early "independent" days came out.

New edition of Wolverton's Bible currently set for December. This has been a hard book to find.

Really looking forward to this one. They reprinted a number of Sam's Strips in Nemo Magazine back in the 80s. Funny, funny in-jokey stuff. I'll be buying this one for sure.

I know this one has been mentioned before on the site, but it needs to be mentioned and re-metioned because it is a true must-have.

When I was a kid, we got The Plain Truth (my mother was Southern Baptist through-&-through, but at some point she must've run into someone in that church & wound up on the mailing list). I usually read the at least a couple of articles in each issue, simply because I was a voracious reader, & I remember coming across some of Wolverton's Bible illustrations therein. Pretty haunting stuff.

I guess there's a good chance that would've marked my initial exposure to anything by him -- I don't think I had access at that point to reprints fron the early Mads to which he contributed, & I'm pretty sure the first non-Mad thing by him I ever saw was a neato reprint in Weird Wonder Tales #1, which didn't come out till probably 3 or 4 years after the period I'm discussing.

Now I find myself wondering who used to do the really clean illustrations in [b]The Watchtower[/i] way back when ...
I tend to split superhero comics fans into "People who like Krypto" and "People who don't like Krypto."
Basically, if you miss the wonder of a dog flying around in a little Superman cape, you're in the wrong hobby.
