Need Green Lantern Help/Advice

Hi,

I'm looking to get into Green Lantern continuity and I need to know which trades/old issues to hunt to learn more about the background as well.

A couple of things, if these help:

1) In the 90s, I was a big Kyle Rayner fan. I know he is still around, but not sure in which title.

2) I like cosmic stories a whole lot. Big fan of cosmic Marvel.

Any help and advice most welcome.

Start with Green Lantern: Rebirth, that'll set the stage to everything that is going on right now. Rann/Thanagar War should be next on your agenda if you like cosmic stuff, also it'll give you an idea of what was going on with Kyle up until he became Ion. I would recommend scooping up the current Green Lantern trades with Hal as well as they are really awesome and you should also check out the Ion trade for some adventures with Kyle leading up to the Sinestro Corps War and the Green Lantern Corps series including the Recharge Mini. The trades for this should be out soon and that'll catch you up with whats going on right now which is the lead up to the Blackest Night with Hal in the solo Green Lantern series, Guy, Kyle and Kilowog (among others) in the Green Lantern Corps series and John in JLA, but they all should be active during the Blackest Night next year (2009)

If you read the current GL series, it is currently retelling Hal's origin. I'd start buying those for sure.

I'd definitely get GL:Rebirth and GL:Sinestro Corps War, the first is in trade already. I'm not sure when SCW is out in trade though. It really is worth tracking down back issues for, though.

The Emerald Twilight/New Dawn trade might be of interest to you. It basically wraps up Hal's fall to Parallax and Kyle's debut as a Lantern. Not sure if you have read those issues yet though.

That's really all you need to get into Green Lantern, I'd say.

If you liked Kyle back in the '90s, you should check out the 12 issue Ion maxi-series. The plot doesn't really go anywhere, but it reunites Kyle with his creator (Ron Marz), and the characterization is brilliant.
