Is it ever explained why Orson refused to fight in the Tournament of Heaven, besides being shell-shocked and losing heart?
Likewise.
Orson returned to K'un-Lun after ten years on Earth a changed man. After being witness to so much death and atrocities during the first World War, he vowed to only fight when needed and thus began drinking and smoking opium to forget what he saw during the war. He took the Book of the Iron Fist from K'un-Lun in hopes that without it, there wouldn't be another Iron Fist to follow him.
When it was time for the Tournament of Heaven, the rest of the Immortal Weapons were sent after him because he refused to participate. During the encounter, Orson accidentally killed the immortal weapon of the city of K'un-Zi.

Not to break up this wonderful conversation but did anyone catch NA 26? IT's written by Bendis but definitely feels like a continuation of the IF series. Great stuff. At the same time seeing how they had Da VInci show up you can probably guess as to how the issue ends.

It was a great backstory, but spoilers:end of spoilers That aside, some good mythos, but i didn't feel the Leonardo stuff was really necessary.
Fongji seemed to have only trained for less than a month before her epic battle with Shou Lao, which happened off-panel!! I was under the assumption Iron Fists train for years
It was better than NA 25 but I was expecting Hope or Danny to show up and neither have yet. >>;
Still curious as to what the connection is between Fongji and Hope tho.
I'm guessing maybe Hope is like her reincarnation or something.
....or maybe Hope IS Fongji! Dun dun DUN!!
Pull list: Amazing Spider-Man, Deadpool, Scarlet Spider, Defenders, Uncanny X-Force, JiM, W&TXM, Swamp Thing, i Vampire, Adventure Time, Snarked, Avengers vs X-Men
My guess is that the only connection is that Fongji is the pattern they're supposed to be following with Hope. Danny needs to know about her so he can bring Hope to K'un-Lun and get her trained. If there are two months between rounds, that's somewhere between two or four months of training, which might be enough for a girl who's trained all her life.
On the other hand, perhaps Fongji is NOT the pattern. She wasn't recorded in the Book of the Iron Fist? Did something go horribly wrong?
i haven't read the issue. why does Feng shui have red hair?
She was the result of her mother's dalliance with an outsider.
Explain something to me -- I get that K'un-Lun only appears to the world one day every ten years. But apparently some people can come and go as they please. Can Danny go there whenever he wants or does he have to be summoned? Would Hope be able to find her way there without help?
handbook says that it is accessible by magic. so i imagine that Hope would need aid.
of course...
"Rand is immediately summoned by his master, Lei Kung (who is also the father of Steel Serpent) to compete in a tournament that will decide the cycle according to which each of the Seven Cities of Heaven appears on Earth. However, the leaders of the Seven Cities had secretly erected gateways between Earth and each city without the knowledge of the populace."
Given that the impetus to get Hope trained in the ways of the Iron Fist is coming from Yu Ti and Lei Kung (who are apparently NOT the Yu Ti and Lei Kung from IIF vol 1?), I guess they could just summon Danny and Hope and tell them they're going to play along.
Could either of them leave K'un-Lun if they didn't want to be there? I could see things being tense and ugly for a while, given that Hope is afraid for her life and Danny will want to go back and help his friends
