OMG guys you're gonna be so stoked for the issue. I don't have time right now to do proper spoilers, but those opening pages we saw early on? Those are from Yu Ti's dreams of a crimson-haired girl who's the bird of fire. And in K'un-Lun he finds one such girl and brings he to the Thunderer to train her. The last pagevisbjust awesome. Lei Kung reads from a book called Forgotten Warriors: the Fallen Iron Fists, a book Yu Ti has been guarding secretly. Man just god stuff and great art. It's just really good. Need to do a deeper read to see if there's anything screwy with IIF continuity/history (it's Bendis after all).

Thanks for the info bro, so there's a book seperate to the "Book of the Iron Fist"? Very intriguing stuff, who were these past Iron Fists and why were they forgotten and not chronicled? This opens up a whole new aspect to the Iron Fist lineage!

Bleeding cool sadi there was a retcon in there I didn't see it. It's one thing to retcon and it's thing to mine a story from characters centuries old. I don't see this any different from Cap where they bring people back from his past, but are new characters.

It's been awhile since I read through IIF, but I thought Lei Kung became the new Yu-Ti and Orson's daughter became the new Thunderer at the end of the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven arc. But in the New Avengers issue, Yu-Ti and Lei Kung are both male. Have I missed a story where this changed? Is this the retcon mentioned above? Otherwise, this issue was fantastic and I look forward to seeing where they are going with the Iron Fist/Phoenix connection.

It was mostly a flashback, but I understood the ending to be current time. I'll have to read it again as I only had a quick read earlier. Also, the art and the imagery in the book were also topnotch! Makes me miss IIF all the more....

Yup, that is the retcon. It could be explained that the Yu-Ti at the end is still disgraced but is helping Lei Kung anyways. There was also a part where the Yu-Ti mentioned there hasn't been an Iron Fist for years. I always thought there was always at least one Iron Fist active :S. Maybe not. There also seemed to be the issue that there is another woman as the Iron Fist, whereas i thought Wu Ao Shi was the first and the last. Maybe I'm wrong though, this does seem to be a secret history after all.

The issue was okay, but it was mostly a setup issue for what's sure to be a great follwup. It lacked action but was pretty good on substance and the art was fantastic. Really great imagery used i thought. Bendis added a few cool concepts to the IF mythos i thought, but the story itself was a bit lacking. Still a great setup.

Feel free to check out my review in my signature. Your opinions would mean a lot!

It's such an odd retcon, though: The Yu-Ti in the flashbacks is the Yu-Ti who was Danny's original, well, step-dad I guess, after Danny was rescued. This is classic Iron Fist, not IIF. All those flashbacks in IIF, that's Yu-Ti. The disgraced Yu-Ti whom Thunderer replaces is his son, Nu-an. So this is, to my knowledge, a 100% accurate reading on the history of Iron Fist right up until IIF.

I also think Bendis is right to say there haven't always been Iron Fists. What he's doing here so wonderfully (again, I really can't believe I just wrote that about BMB) is that he's found a way to bridge the old-school Iron Fist with IIF. It's really rather brilliant.

But I have no idea why at the very end it's Yu-Ti and Lei Kung. I totally missed that when i first read it b/c I didn't see "K'un Lun Today." It's so baffling, but then again, how else was he going to introduce this mysterious new book?

    Now, on to other stuff:
    1. Great art. Not Aja great, but Deodato and Conrad just nail it. The giant panels are gorgeous, and the fiery images of the Phoenix and Shao-Lou fighting and merging are spectacular. And it both cases, Fongji (the Ku' Lun Hope, I guess) seems to master and control the Phoenix with the power of the dragon. Visually amazing.
    2. Thunderer unmasked! First time I've ever seen that.
    3. Great scene using the vessel of Bo-Ling
    4. Can someone with more knowledge of Eastern imagery explain the very last panel?

I don;t know if Fongjibecomes an Iron Fist. We'll see how it fits with Wu Ao Shi, but like you say, it HAS been a secret. So secret that we needed to retcon bits of IIF!

So yeah, other than the strange retcon at the very end, great Immortal Iron Fist-esque issue.

AvX 3 preview is up and Iron Fist gets a shoutout. He's going to Wakanda with Black Panther. So.... Is he going to K'un Lun at any point? And this can't be tied up with Defenders, right? Paint me confused...

I don't see how any of it reconciles with Defenders. It's like Defenders is happening on a completely different world as far as the main books are concerned.

It was just that ending that stood out in particular for me. Everything else i can gloss over, but I'd really like an explanation to that. I was fine with everything and i even liked some of the mythos Bendis added, but there were too many splash pages that could've been used for story imo, but at least they were drawn amazingly.
