Default Moore Welcomes Moviegoers in "Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D."

In this week’s “Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.” #29, Stuart Moore kicks off a four-issue stint as the book’s writer, and CBR News spoke with him about his new-reader-friendly arc, “With Iron Hands.”

I definitely prefer Director of SHIELD over Invincible, even though I'm a huge Fraction fan. The preview reads like a dream and Stuart Moore is on the list of most underrated writers in the industry, like David Hine.

Roberto De La Torre is a godsend on this series. It definitely gives the same vibe as Brubaker and Epting's Captain America, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. He's an incredible talent and damn, I'm definitely in for this ride.

Looks like we are in for a good ride while the Knaufs take a well deserved vacation. I´m starting to see the Alpha team as something approaching what the Howling Commandoes were to Fury. Though to what degree is yet to be shown. I rather like the concept of them being the cream of the cream. I´m sure they´ve been put through a rigorous set of physical/psychological tests and background checks before being put on such a team.

Love that Art!!! This has been consistantly good while not being a "tie-in" to everything else Iron Man is into right now. So don't get me wrong, but....

I am a little disappointed that there's no Secret Invasion tie-in though. You'd think a title with Director of SHIELD would somehow tie-in to the SI and the fact that his technology has been completely compromised. But hey, I still love the art.

I find it a blessing just as much as I thank Marvel for letting Brubaker work without getting his Captain America dragged into whatever crossover of the moment. Though I am still a bit sad about the skrull Dugan.

The last time they tied Iron Man into an event, it was frankly horribly done.

The tie in itself was excellent... but the way it was just placed in the middle of the Iron Man on-going then completely ignored come off very disjointed.

I think Marvel has come up with a better formula where they just create a seperate mini when they want to focus on a character during an event, leaving the main on-going book to do whatever the heck it wants.

That said, I'm not sure Iron Man needs a mini tie in for this event. The main books seems to give us a pretty good idea on what Iron Man is doing right now. I suppose we could have a few issues focusing on SHIELD in their crashed hellicarriers (for the millionth time).

It looks like they didn't know what to do with the WWH tie in. It's pretty small for a mini (only 2 issues) and it's still awkward to put it in the middle of the Knauf's run who really didn't have an obligation to reference it since it takes place within the limited amount of time that WWH starts off in.

They were better off just making it a double sized one shot tie in rather than a 2 parter but interestingly enough they put those issues into the big collection of WWH tie in TPB that came out recently.

    Pretty much.

As for this fill in arc by Stuart Moore, it actually looks pretty good and doesn't seem to stray too far from what the Knauf's have been doing although the coloring on Iron Man's arms bother me for some reason. I suppose if I were to no prize it, it would be a "variant" suit of the extremis one but that's just my nitpicky side.

I think the filler story will be good.
I wish comics were more tied into each other. When all the world is demolished in an avengers event, it's funny to see Captain America on his solo title like nothing happened. That said, the good part is that they leave the book intact. Cap is great that way and so is Iron Man. If the Kanufs don't have anything to write about SI, don't do it.

It's hard for comics to really be as tied together as they once were, because some writers are a lot more decompressed than others.

The entire first arc of MA took place in like a day in real time. In that same number of issues, other books may have advanced weeks or even months.

But the nice thing about events I suppose is that it forces books to kind of play catch up and end up in roughly the same time and place at least by the end of the event.
