Default On The Subject of West Virginia

My parents are visiting, and while waiting for my mom to get ready for dinner, my dad and I were watching Wolf Blitzer's little fooferaw about the Edwards endorsement. We both agree that the only real reason to watch Wolf is to make fun of him, and so when some pundit or other made the comment that no Democratic candidate since 1916 has won the White House without winning West Virginia. I remarked that this was like saying no Democratic candidate has won the White House without being a carbon-based lifeform.

Incidentally, I intend to steal the phrase "sleight-of-thought."

Yeah, the statement is completely meaningless until somebody can show that winning WV actually swung the election...
