Default Does this idea for an Ant-man movie sound good?

    Saw this on wikipedia

"Edgar Wright plans to direct a live-action Ant-Man film. The script has been written by Wright and Joe Cornish, who plan to include Henry Pym and Scott Lang as major characters, with Pym as Ant-Man in the 1960s in Tales to Astonish style, and a flashforward to Lang as Ant-Man's successor in the 1980s/1990s."

Personally I dont like this idea.I think that they should just stick with Henry Pym as Ant-man through out the whole movie and have it take place in the contemporary era of it's release date. What do you guys think?.

I can see why comic purists would hate the idea (it renders Pym largely unusable for Avengers), but I dunno.

I feel like legacy characters are still something largely unexplored in superhero movies and cartoons. We always start from the beginning with these origin movies, but just once I'd like to see one about an aging hero passing the mantle to his young successor.

It sounds okay, but, like Free-Man said, it renders Pym largely unusable for Avengers. I would much rather a Giant Man/Wasp movie set entirely in the present day, without Scott Lang. One of those "passing down the mantle" movies would be better for a new or independent superhero unrelated to Marvel.

Ant-Man has always been one of my least favourite incarnations of Hank Pym. There's also a good chance that the "1960s Tales to Astonish" style will end up being goofy and exactly what the studios are trying to avoid by giving the Hawkeye a black leather uniform, etc.

I don't hate the idea, but I think there's so much more potential with Janet than Scott Lang. I think she's the kind of superhero needed in such a 'male' filled medium. Not only that, but with sex-appeal heroine Black Widow on the screens, I think they might need a 'smart man's' heroine. :P But yeah, having Scott Lang makes Janet useless, who I think is a much stronger character than both Lang and Pym.

Edgar Wright is similar to Christopher Nolan in my mind, in that he can be given carte blanche on any project he wants and I have faith that he will do a brilliant job. I personally don't mind the legacy aspect too much as long as Pym gets enough screen time and development himself.

I don't know. My want to see Wasp incorporated clouds my judgement.

i was hoping ant man would be very much like kick ass
how can a movie named ant man be anything but a comedy
I was even hoping it'd start with hank pym being played by a big actor taken the role all serious, then dying somewhere near the begging (in a dumb way) and simon peg (being either lang or o grady doesn't matter) and being a f up super hero who in the end finds his way

Josh Duhamel as Hank Pym: who says good looking guys can't be leading chemists, physicists, engineers and scientists in the biological field? He'd be a mix between all four of the Big Bang Theory cast.

Kristen Bell/Ashley Greene, mainly because of the chemistry between the two, and their pixie-ish looks. But I also think they're very capable actresses, especially for how I think the movie should go. She would be the kind of girl you think is dumb, but is actually very intellectual and resourceful and incredibly independent (she does run her own designer label, after all).

    This. Huge potential awesomeness here.

Ohh and Anthony Michael Hall ? Man, that's probably the best idea i have ever read on this whole messageboard. I would love to see him in that role.

Alison Brie would be a good Janet. I would like to see her work on an Edgar Wright movie.

you're all so incredibly self-centered. what if they just had Hank, in a contemporary setting, aiding Scott/allowing him to use the Ant-Man identity? Hank could be Giant-Man in the Avengers flick with Janet appearing as the Wasp. see how that works? you don't want Pym as Ant-Man in the Avengers flick anyways? being a giant would look more impressive. and Scott wouldn't be in the Avengers flick. so then there is no problem introducing Janet. heck, it sets a precedent for her powers by showing Scott shrinking in the solo movie.

What's the point to introduce an obscure and minor character like Lang when you can directly use Pym ? (one of the original member of the Avengers, no less)

You're obviously a Scott Lang fan and hell, i sure like him too, but honestly he wouldn't be the most logical choice at all.

    Excuse me?

I have a right to complain when I'm afraid that one of my favourite characters will be butchered to make a D-Lister look good. Janet does have more potential as a character and it'd be nice to explore the Hank/Jan relationship more before introducing obscure guys like Scott Lang.

I expect that this will end up being little more than a Kickass-style comedy, nothing more. It might be a decent film, but it's going to make Hank (and possibly Scott) look pretty f'ing silly. People outside the comic world won't be able to take Hank Pym seriously as a character. Hank's personality doesn't fit a comedy, and as much as I think Edgar Wright is awesome, I don't think he's suited for a movie like this.
