    Default ASM Volume 2 question

Yesterday I wound up at a comic store (I TOLD my friend not to take me there because I'm trying not to spend money right now! ) and there was a big sale on TPBs/graphic novels. I picked up volumes 3 and 4 of "Amazing Spider Man" Volume 2, which reprint issues 30-40. They were only four bucks each, otherwise I would have had better self-control.

Just so I'm on the same page, the Volume 2 issues are still within the regular continuity, right? And the renumbering was just a gimmick by Marvel, yes?

Yep. Just a basic renumbering, although they tied in some of Byrne's Chapter One retelling of the origin, too.

I don't remember the exact number right now, but I think #30 is the first JMS, rught? If so, it's OK.

I think that this was a very boring period for marvel. Nothing happened, no one cared for the story of the previous writer, no interaction between other characters, just the star of the book and a supporting cast.

Thought I think marvel need that.

You have just bought the first appearances of Ezekiel and Morlun. GREAT stuff.

Personally, I think you just bought some of the crappiest Spidey stories ever told. JMS shoehorned the Spider-Man mythos into a magic-based realm which should have been reserved for Dr. Strange stories.

And to top it all off, his swan song undoes all the stories he previously told by having Peter make a deal with the Devil.

You know...maybe the fact JMS writes superb dialouge is why I forgive stories like that much more evenly. I do think "Coming Home" deserves to be in any canon though. It's just a good old fashioned throwback where Peter uses his scientific background to kick someone's ass, using a question of his past to snap him into a present answer.

Had JMS never pulled the trigger on the Spider-Totem, and left it an ambigious plot point, his run wouldnt have been mired so much by it. Hell, he should never have brought back Ezekiel or Morlun after that story, it stands on it's own without resolving what Ezekiel meant.

They are not undone. Only 1 thing changed, the marriage, and thankfully it did.

They are undone. Harry is alive, and the classic, established history will be reexplored to explain everything.

The marraige will be back, stop fooling yourself, it was never a problem.

If you think that it's possbile to keep everything else the same, while removing the marriage, you are delusional.

My opinion exactly! Though I didn't like JMS' run, I think that if you read the first stories they are nice, though not my style. The question about his origin was a cool thing, as long as it was just a question. If he had stopped in #500 he would be remembered as a good writer on Spider-Man, at least for me.
