Default NYCC: Sunday Conversation with Dan DiDio

DC's Dan DiDio held an informal conversation with fans Sunday at the New York Comic Con. Other comics personalities in attendance at the panel included Mike Carlin, Jann Jones, Ian Sadler, Bob Wayne and Marvel's Tom Brevoort!

Near the end of the discussion, DiDio thanked those in attendance for coming to the con, saying that he respects fans who come out to the cons to enjoy their hobby rather than complaining on the internet. "You make the attempts to be here, to come to the panels," he said.

What a cheap, divisive statement. Raising gripes about a product, especially if they're well-reasoned, doesn't preclude enjoying a convention.

Maybe we should wait 'til we have an annual opportunity to kiss ass in person, instead of making a thriving community that keeps each other interested in comics on a daily basis.

Some of us can not afford to fly to NY and so the internet is our out-let. Also some people are suffering from an illness which unfortunatley keeps them from leaving home. Dan Didio should apologise to those people.
I am a DC fan but embarassed by his statement.

I can't say that I find his comment overly offensive, although he could have left out the part about people complaining on the Internet. I simply took it as him thanking those that invest the time and effort to attend conventions, rather than being derogatory against those that don't. Granted, he could have said it better, but I don't think that he necessarily meant anything by it. Just my $.02.

I hate to sound all apologist, but I got the feeling that he meant their comments, whether good or bad, were great to hear in person. YMMV.
