It’s almost kind of a self contained story you don’t even have to know that much about 'Secret Invasion
As all good Tie-ins should be IMO.

The artist drawing Fraction’s epic of awesome action is still being kept under wraps. "I was shocked that we got this person," Fraction said. "I was literally stunned. I never in a million years thought it would happen. So I’m super psyched."

    so...any guesses who?

I'm glad they're keeping this tie in brief.

Whenever you start a new series or there's been a re-boot or there's been a major change of direction for a title a HUGE sweeping crossover with the rest of the Marvel U. is a great way to derail it.

As far as who the mystery artist is I'm going to guess John Romita Jr.

He's got some time before he takes the reins at ASM and I've always thought that he considered his run from the '98 Thor series to be one of his favorites.

I hope not...I've seen all the Romita Thor I've wanted to see....and he just did WWH...

    I don't think he's that great.

The only artists that I would be "shocked" that they got for this series would be:

    Frank Miller
    Todd McFarlane
    Alex Ross

or maybe Michael Turner! ( a guy can dream)

I disagree. I think JRJR is one of the best of this era. Especially when it comes to big throwdowns!

I'd be shocked by Walt Simonson. But I think he may be DC exclusive, at the moment.

    My guess is also Jrjr.
I thingk some people just don't "see" how good his art is. Esp. on stuff like WWH and Thor. Sure, its a bit unorthodox, but damn is it epic stuff. Nobody draws fight scenes any better. Nobody draws "special effects" and destruction any better.

"300" with Asgardians instead of Spartans? Oh hell yeah!

Exactly, some of his stuff can be a bit jarring (looking at Thor vol. 2 issue 2 we see a rather severe looking Scarlet Witch going into battle against the Destroyer)

but overall he just hits home runs when it comes to telling great stories with his art.

From X-Men to Iron Man to DD to Thor and Spiderman, his presence has touched every corner of the Marvel U and he's been doing it for 20+ years, a consumate professional.

The fact that he's going to be returning to ASM has convinced me to give BND a chance, despite my misgivings about the new direction.

Or maybe he's just not that great for some of us. Im not "missing" anything, I just don't think it's that great, alot of it looks sloppy and ....crappy.

Destruction scenes? That's what I thought sucked the MOST in the fight between Hulk and Sentry. It just wasn't impressive at all. I'm not saying he SUCKS, I just don't think he's that great.

And Goerge Perez draws better fights and destruction :D

George Perez is my hands-down favorite artist, and I would wet my drawers if he turns out to be the man. But agree with you folks who feel JRjr is the frontrunner. I've had issues with his work in spots, but overall I enjoy his stuff.

Good old Walt would indeed be awesome, but that just seems to be an impossibility.

But I cant see them makeing it out for JRJR to be such a shocking announcement of an artist.

    What if it's Liefeld?

When Thor returned from the oblivion of Ragnarok, he had inherited much of the vast mystical power wielded by his deceased father, Odin. If the Skrulls were facing Thor at his best, they would need to bring some immensely powerful weapons to bear. Unfortunately for the people of Broxton and the Asgardians, Thor isn’t at full power. In recent issues of "Thor," the Thunder God expended much of the Odin Power in order to revive the Asgardians who were "sleeping" on earth, hidden in mortal bodies. "His batteries are a little worn down," Fraction said. "Thor’s very much a god and very much reconnected to his greatness and the power of Asgard. But at the beginning of this story he’s not at the top of his game and he’s crucially aware of it. Now when he needs to be at full capacity, he’s not. So it puts him at a real disadvantage."

To bad when writing this, he didn't know that Thor would replenish himself with the Odin-Sleep.

.......thanks to the thread's renewal, I just noticed that no one ever posted who the "mystery artist" for SI: THOR is.

It's Dougie Braithwaite - penciller of UNIVERSE X, PARADISE X and JUSTICE - who I believe signed a Marvel exclusive a few months ago.
