CBR News asked Morrison point blank, which Flash runs a month ahead into "Final Crisis" #4. He replied with a laugh, "It's not Jay Garrick! In #3 we have a race between the Flash and the Black Racer, who is, as you know, the New Gods' version of Death. So you go and figure it out."
Wait a minute. The Flash is racing with the Black Racer? What about the Black Flash? Isn't he in existence because normal death couldn't catch up with the Flash? Maybe, maybe not.

Still sounds kind of confusing with all that happening in this event to me.

I mean it sounds okay, but with different players and less Big 3, I don't know how to judge this event.

I am not liking where this is going at all. Grant Morrison destroying Batman with Batman RIP and he is taking DC Universe with it in Final Crisis. I find myself hard to find a reason to pick up final crisis, secret invasion, or a lot of dc or marvel universe books if there is any after what happens.

This is the kind of information and details I've been waiting to hear, and they've come about a week earlier than I expected. I was excited for Final Crisis before because of Morrison and Jones' involvement, but now with a hefty amount of details for me to finally go on, I am absolutely psyched for this event.

May 28th can't come soon enough now! Great scoop, CBR!

oh hell yes. now that's a lot of info. had no idea this would tie into R.I.P. or effect the DCU's future. thought it would mostly take place in the future and exist on its own.
    wow.

I thought the le interview was really good. Alot of cool details and info. Man, I honestly believe final crisis is going to throw secret invasion out of the water.

You know, before I read this I really wasn't looking forward to Final Crisis. Sure I was going to buy it but not enough of the story was getting to us. They were trying too hard to keep everything a secret that they almost forgot to hype it a bit. (and really no matter what you say, we all want our books hyped)

After reading this interview, I'm REALLY looking forward to this. Wow, it sounds amazing! Thank you for this interview and getting me excited about it! My god, Secret Invasion was everywhere and I'm loving that but not much has been said about Final Crisis. NOW I have something to look forward to! NOW I'm excited to learn what happens to the characters and the universe as a whole.

Fantastic Grant! Thank you for giving us something to look forward to!!

Here's the thing -- I've been a marvel zombie for a while now. Really been enjoying their stuff and still am. DC lost me with Countdown and all its spinoffs, but this? Wow.

It's just amazing to me that there are going to be two events from two different companies that both are or sound like they'll be awesome.

I'm up and down like a yo-yo everytime I read something from Morrison about this.

On the one hand, hearing him say that the impetus for the whole project was to revitalize the New Gods sends me sky-high, because they're one of the very few DC concepts that interest me.

But on the other, I can't help thinking this is going to end up making all the same mistakes DC usually makes with that concept, because it's starting from the same set of premises: New Gods in the DCU, focus on Darkseid, not a mention of Orion or the others, and Darkseid as the ultimate DCU - read JLA/Superman - villain.

My feeling right now is that this will be a great JLA/Superman/Batman story for fans of those characters, but for anyone interested in the New Gods, I think this could end up a major fiasco. I probably won't be able to resist looking at it though, in the hope I might be wrong this time.

When I first heard that Morrison was using the New Gods, I was in two minds. I loved his depiction of Darkseid in JLA, but his Orion and Barda left a lot to be desired. While Mr. Miracle was interesting, it also wasn't my favourite depiction of these characters. Then I read this:

But people tend to think about the New Gods AS superheroes these days. And even I've done it myself in 'JLA' where they're just these guys with a bit of extra power, who have a bit more snarl and crackle on their faces. But they've never really been treated AS gods with all the implications of that.

That's all I needed to know. Very few writers have been able to capture the scope and grandeur that Kirby infused into the New Gods. Morrison admits that he didn't really achieve that with JLA, so that alleviates my concerns in that respect. I'm now very excited by this project.

Looking forward to this. Sounds massive. I hope Morrison can pull it off. No one has really gotten the New Gods right since Kirby.
