    Default Code Geass Discussion Thread

There's one for Inuyasha, One Piece, Bleach so I made one for Code Geass.

Here's the world map form Ep 2

And am I the only one who finds it amusing that the Holy Britannia Empire lost Britten.

And Suzaku has stolen Lelouch's title as king of the utter bastards

Note: This thread is about Season 2. If you're watching Season 1 on Adult Swim, here there be spoilers.

Edit: A thread for Season 1 on Adult Swim

And am I the only one who finds it amusing that the Holy Britannia Empire lost Britten.
Napoleon is scary that way :p

Edit: To elaborate, in Code Geass's alternate history, Britain retained control of the American colonies, but Napoleon won the Battle of Trafalgar and conquered the British Isles, forcing them to establish a new capital on the American continent.

Some one has leaked 03 to the web.

    http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_ch00XMjQzMDQwMzI=.html

Apparently it was all up but deleted instantly Someone on 2 chan said a member of the staff has already been arrested because of this.

Word on the street is that their either going to broadcast episode 4 this week first, or postpone the broadcast for 2 weeks so that the leaked portion can be re-animated.

That's neat. And yes, rather amusing/ironic.

Did the Holy Britannia Empire lose Great Britian in Season 1? I've watched 15 episodes into Code Geass Season 1 as of this writing.

If the Holy Britannia Empire was with out Great Britian at the beginning of Season 1, it would be interesting to know why, exactly.

One thing seems fairly safe to assume - in the World of Code Geass, the American War of Independence either never happenned, or if it did happen, it ended in failure.

Perhaps this led to a WWII where Hitler successfully conquered Great Britian (took it from the Holy Britannia Empire), and Germany now runs most/all of Europe?

Edit: Oops... just read from MKTerra that Napolean is the actual cause of this, not Hitler. Interesting. Still, I think I would have perfered the "The Axis dominated WWII" twist. That would help explain Holy Brittania's hatred of the Japanese, and make the moral conflict a bit more complex and ambiguous.

Just a theory - I've only gotten into Code Geass within the past few days.

Personally, I'm thoroughly enjoying this anime, as it combines many different elements from many different animes. I also find this main protagonist of Lelouche very original - yes, I definitely see the Light Yagami comparisons, but I think he has elements to his character that differentiate him quite a bit from Light as well.

SJC - This is a question I wanted to pose to you since I know that you're a big El Hazard fan just as I am.

Lelouch strikes me as being a mixture of V (for Vendetta), Light Yagami, and Katsuhiko Jinnai.

Would you agree with that assessment of Lelouch?

The Roman Emperor was Augustus, Caesar's successor.
    2. Sakuradite (known as "Philosopher Stone" back then) was first discovered near the Stonehenge. The scarcity of sakuradite impeded the research's progress to turn it into a viable energy source. However, Marco Polo had travelled further east and reached Japan (Zipangu); in it, he have discovered Japan has a large deposit of Sakuradite.
    3. In the 16th century, Elizabeth I who remained single throughout her life had a son, Henry the 9th. The potential fathers, Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester, Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex, and Duke of Britannia Carl, gained influence and power as a result.
    4. In ATB 1770s, the American Revolution (known as Washington Rebellion) took place. The Duke of Britannia at the time bribes Benjamin Franklin with promises of titles and territories in the colonies, who was charged with appealing to Louis XVI of France's assistance in the colonies' war for independence. Thereafter, Benjamin Franklin seems to have become an earl. As a result, the Continental Army suffers a decisive defeat during the Siege of Yorktown, George Washington dies.
    5. Towards the end of the 18th century, the Western world enters the Age of Revolution, with numerous people's revolutions take place – save for Britannia, which under Henry X held to absolute monarchy. After the French revolutions Napoleon emerges. He wins the Battle of Trafalgar and occupies London. In 1807, Queen Elizabeth III is chased to Edinburgh, where a popular revolutionary militias arrests her and forces her to abdicate and end the monarchy, an event known as The Shame of Edinburgh. However, The Duke of Britannia (in America) Ricardo Von Britannia and his friend and subordinate Knight of One, Sir Richard Hector, bring Elizabeth III and her followers to the new world and establish a capital on the east coast of the new continent.
    6. In ATB 1813, Elizabeth III died without leaving any heirs; she was supposed to have chosen her successor from one of her blood relations, but on her dying bed she nominated her lover, Ricardo Von Britannia the first instead. She is therefore famous for being "The Queen who loved throughout her stormy life." The Britannian year is established, with the origin year set as to the ascendancy of the first Celtic King.
    7. Napoleon died on his way back to France after his defeat at the Battle of Waterloo; although it was never proven, it is rumoured that assassins poisoned his food in accordance to Elizabeth III's will: her last words included the famous line "I do not forget slights to my honour."

Thanks for the informative list! Some neat historical changes within the Code Geass universe there.

Many of Lelouch's tactical manuevers remind me of Jinnai too.

His handling of his school friends, and the shrewd careful actions used in maintaining his secret identity, and the use of his powers, is pure Light though.

I also don't find Lelouche to be all that evil thus far, honestly. The way he treats some close relatives is admittably ghastly, and he's definitely an "ends justify the means" sort of guy, but both of these elements of his character are pretty understandable given the extreme social darwinism of his brute of a father...

I feel pretty comfortable rooting for Lelouche - he's gray, but the Holy Britannia Empire's top dogs are largely black , imo.

No Lelouche is black hence the name black knights

And while I root for Lelouche it's because I see him as the lesser evil that Charles and the rest of the family. And you're right I can see Jinnai using chess pice names for his troops same as Lelouche.

Oh boy I just had an idea for Rumbles Lelouche finds a portal to El Hazard and allies with Jinnai at the start of the Bugrom war. Off to rumbles.

Those options sound like neither business sense nor common sense, so I hope the rumors are false and they just air Ep.3 as scheduled.

Question: Is Pizza Hut providing monetary funding and/or commercial payment to the makers of Code Geass?

Because if they're not , they're getting some unbelievably good free product placement within the actual Code Geass episodes themselves.

You might as well have Zero and C.C. say "Code Geass fans - get over to Pizza Hut for Dinner today! We fully endorse their excellent pizzas!"

Yes, they are. But there's also speculation that the animators were having fun with all the product placement, which is why there's so much of it. It even shows up in fan art.

Hence the "Pizza Hut suppourts the rebellion!" meme.

Well... I've just watched up to Episode 2 of Season 2.

    A few things...

    O
    I
    L
    E
    R
    S
    !
    !
    !

    1. Suzaku is now a truly loathsome character for me. I felt that the philosophical conflict between him and Zero was genuinely debateable, and hence very encaptivating, for quite some time. However, with the events of the last few episodes of Season 1, and with what is revealed in the first two episodes of Season 2, I now think this of Suzaku... he's Benedict Arnold... on steroids.

He is an utter traitor to his people (the Japanese), and is self-centered to the core. He has personally seen his people brutally massacred, and essentially racially cleansed, before his very eyes by the Brittania army, and still he wants to serve Brittania? Truly despicable.

He betrayed his best friend growing up after that best friend had foolishly saved Suzaku's sorry butt numerous times in spite of how they had become enemies in the Brittania/Order of the Black Knights war.

    2. Outstanding plot twists, and extremely good use of drama and suspense. Code Geass knows how to do "epic" right.

    3. I really felt quite sorry for Princess Euphemia. She is one of the most compelling tragic characters that I've ever seen in anime.

    4. Kallen's cognitive dissonance concerning Zero and Lelouche is a bit disturbing. With a year having past since she found out the truth about Zero/Lelouche, it shouldn't be THIS hard for her to square in the mind that they're not two seperate entities. Nonetheless, Kallen is one of my favourite characters in the series, and I still like her a lot. I particularly liked it when she called Suzaku a traitor in the final episode of Season 1.

    5. This series may be painful to watch on an episode per week basis. It's reliance on cliff-hangers is incredible. It's a wonderful series to marathon though (as I kind of did with Season 1), as the cliff-hangers leave you wanting to watch more right away.

Agreed and while sad I find Kallen funny. If I mad at you you're Lelouche. If I want to jump you you're Zero.

Suzaku is now Knight of Round #7. Supposedly he's aiming to reach #1 because it comes with control of a territory, and he would of course pick Area 11.

Btw, Wikipedia has official word on Episode 3, citing Animax:
