    Arrow New Characters

You never see threads for original characters on this board, so here's one.

List original characters that you think would work well in the Ultimate Universe.

    Like, not from 616?

In that case, a new enemy that isn't a total cliche or a mangling of an already popular hero.

Aside from Geldoff has there been any new noteworthy characters in the Ultimate Universe? I think they've spent too much time re-creating characters in different ways and really squandered creating some brand new ones.

What was the name of the Mary Sue Kirkman created when he start his X-Men run? He was new.

Kenny from USM is original, right? Or is he based in someone from old school 616? Either way, he's been there from the beginning, and he's turning out to be a really interesting character.

That Magician guy Kirkman created early in his Ultimate X-Men run who had reality warp powers or whatnot was pretty cool.

Geldof seemed like Bendis lost a bet and had to create Geldof (whatever that means).

As far as not-yet-created original characters for the Ult U, I think they should do something cosmic! Not like a Thanos thing or anything like that (though I would be down for an Ult Infinity Gaulntlet! But that's a whole other rant haha) I'm talking about something on that big time/space/sci-fi/planetary-ish/alan-moore-ish/metaphysical level while it's still such a new universe.

...Though after reading that back maybe that wouldn't be the right thing for the Ult U haha

    Hmm, well
    UXM: Magician
    USM: Geldoff, Kenny(aka Kong)
    UFF: none
Ultimates: not sure but Hurricane, Cap Middle East(I think he's supposed to be wonderman ultimization with the W on his costume, but who knows) and the multiplying man(he's a James Maddox knockoff, used genes from a mutie to get his powers or something)

The problem with making original characters is that there still aren't 616 characters introduced that already have a fanbase. Why go with a new guy when you got a real popular 616 you still haven't Ultimized? Bendiis has created a solution to this and thrown a whole bunch of 616 Ultimizations as throwaways like Vulture, Omega Red, Rhino, etc while making it part of a subplot(which was the Tinkerer).

I wouldn't mind UFF having some original villain/characters, especially since I don't really know any 616 FF villains but so far I haven't been interested in any characters shown since Ultimate Namor. The Ultimates have enough 616 threats to Ultimize and any knew type of threat would be considered a knockoff of something(how else do you get an Ultimate size threat?)

I'm pretty sure you'll find Hawk-Owl is the Ultimate version of Nite-Owl from the Watchmen.

Um... not to harp, but you kinda missed the point. Like, make Up new characters, not list the current ones. Anyway, most of those have counterparts. And before you say Kong; he's totally Ultimate Bendis.:D

I think that's a bit rigid, there are so very many characters you could compare him to other than Nite-Owl.

Hawk-Owl=Ultimate Batman. That was the whole idea.

I think Bendis could and will create new villains for USM. Geldoff was not really a villain more like a lost disorientated guy who was in need for someone who told him what's the right thing to do.

The problem with trying to create new characters is that there are so many good ones. it's hard to top the ones already existing.

The real problem with creating new characters is that it has been proven time and again that comicsfans really couldn't care less about new characters, and will actively avoid books that feature new characters.
'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

Yeah when was the last time new heroes or villains had any success? Most of the new 616 characters only last as long as the writers who created them.
