    Default whats the going rate for a comic book artist?

    Hello fellow comic book fans!!

    I'd like to hire a comic book artist to do some work I can scan in for my website but I don't know what to pay them. As I understand it, they are used to $$ per comic book page. Whats the typical $$ per page for a decent artist thats not working for the big guys (marvel dc etc)? Also, how long does it take them to do a page?

    THANKS FOR ANY HELP!! ;)

    Rate = your eternal soul.

    When I was younger it was rumored to be around $40 a page, but that was in the early 90s.

    I Assume you mean for Marvel & DC.

    As a comic artist who knows that most writers don't have the money to pay $40 to $100 a page and doesn't expect that, I have always liked when a writer offers a small stipend (say $100 - 250) for a project and then a generous back end % like 40 - 50. We know that a book usually won't make much money but the offer makes us feel good about putting the effort into it. plus with up front money you can feel okay about setting reasonable deadlines.

    hope that helps.
