We really need a new Spawn videogame. Armagedon was good but they didn't utilize his chains or cape or other powers enough.
Also a new show with updated animation would be great. The old cartoon was great and way ahead of its time.
Also any plans on returning Al Simmons to Spawn I haven't been reading this new guy.
With all d rip-off's of buks & xcters Todd made with other writers outta Spawn/Simmons & given dat Simmons is d real Spawn having lasted dis long with such a gr8 devoted fanbase....u would have thought dat Todd McCrap would have spun-off an Al Simmons on-going following his adventures in d abyss, netherealm, all d several different hells, heavens & purgatories with their respective villains & cunning manipulative bad guys/ girls or his sumwat special connexion with d Mother of all creation or give sum much needed more detailed in depth exploration of Simmons life as a mercenary alongside Chapel & how d supernatural had been following him d whole time since birth or Simmons could travel thru all d different realities & time meeting all d different Spawns(bad & good), etc, etc.
All dis shown & illustrated on panel...d ideas r endless, we just really feel abused & violated with d way Todd did dat 2 d xcter. 4 craps sake didnt Simmons basically create d 'new' earth under his own frakkin power...d same earth dis new stupidity of a new Spawn xcter is running around in.
Damn, we r ssooooooooo bluddy pissed!:-(
i remember reading the first 30 of these when they came out they look so much different now

Oh my... Spawn #208 was incredible. The white room scenes with Twitch were amazing! This book has the most cinematic art on the stands - possibly ever in a comic. Twitch is going to drop the knowledge on Jim next month - and its going to be wild seeing what happens when they eventually try to save Sam. Im hooked.
Really, forget everything youve thought and heard of the Spawn of the past. Anyone's who's into the dark noir mixed with the supernatural needs to check this book out. Its in the style and quality level of a good vertigo book - back when vertigo used to actually be good. Start with #201 and give it a shot...
EDIT: I attached some scans of 208 to show that this aint the Spawn you're used too. Also the cover to 209. Check it out yall!

haven't read Spawn since issue 100, is there anything needed to know, or is 201 new reader friendly enough to just jump in ?
You could just pick it up and go from #201 - thats when the new creative team hops on board and when the book shifts to a much more cinematic and frankly more mature/sophisticated tone. IMO #1-200 mostly were brightly colored and superhero comic booky - if that makes sense. Its now pure noir mixed with under the surface supernatural/horror. Much more realistic art. McFarlane says this style is here to stay. The creative team is committed at least till 250.
Pretty much all you need to know is there is a new Spawn now called Jim Downing. The previous Spawn (Al Simmons) blew his own head off and now there's a new Spawn. Jim woke up from a coma just after those events and remembers nothing. He soon discovered that he has the ability to turn into Spawn but knows nothing about it - he also has healing powers. From 201 on youll be learning about everything just as Jim does.
When you get to #205, they recap everything about Jim. And it looks like in #209, Jim will finally learn about about Al and the suit. So thatll cover all bases from the past.

A lot of that sounds a lot like what Hine and Haberlin were trying to do with their tun before they got taken out to bring the book back to superheroics, etc. Then once they realize thats not working, they bring it back to the dark styles. I'd definitely recommend Hine's run if you're digging this.

thanks for the info, the art work intrigued me. I'll pick up a few issues and give it a try.
Yep, its definately similar. I liked bits of Hine/Haberlin's run - it had an amazing atmosphere but Hine's dialogue was pretty awful. Also, as good as Haberlin's art was back then - its got nothing on the new artist. This new stuff is on another level in all aspects.

I think since 201 Spawn has been the best it has been in forever. I loved Hine's writing back during his time but Haberlin's art was a struggle at times. I feel like now we have great writing and great art.
I agree that 201 is a great jumping on point and the book has been a blast for the past 8 issues

I really want to care about reading the book but I just can't see myself reading a non-Al Spawn sorry.

I was that same mindset but I have to tell you everything since 201 has been fabulous. They took a character that I could care nothing about and turned him into a dynamic person that intrigues me to see what his next move it going to be. While Al was somewhat of a good guy deep down, Jim is nothing like that. He is a terrible person with all of this power.... it is a fun read
