Thoughts on 222?
I really enjoyed it, myself. Some new info regarding Downing/Kramer, some Terry Fitzgerald action, and some new tidbits on "The Project". The guys keep doing a great job tying it all together.

I enjoyed it too, especially the part where Jim beats up Richard to check if he is cured Lol
What I don't get is that they reintroduced Tremor only for him to disappear again

I didnt think much of this issue tbh...
Just seemed to be retreading old ground again. Also kinda miffed that there wasnt even a fight with Tremor which the cover implied there would be. Feels like i missed an issue :/
I'll confess I don't read Spawn but have thoroughly enjoyed the parody covers of late.
On the one end, you end last issue with Richard transforming into Tremor teasing the fight, you say Tremor is back on the cover, and on the inside cover you imply that Tremor and Spawn were going to fight and then you don't have that happen which I was pretty miffed about. It does seem like something was amiss in that regard.
On the other end, outside of that, you had an issue that advanced the plot with The Project and, to me, looks to be setting the stage for the return of Jason Wynn both because of the work that Jim & Richard are making, but also with Terry and the CIA. I liked that they tied the guy from Endgame and post-Endgame, that hired Extractor and Patient 46, now named The Agent, to this as it does bring that character as a part of it and it makes sense given his apparent connections with the experiments so I like that they are tying up that loose end. Outside of that, it was more setup and advancement more than anything which is fine if we remember previous arcs with the new team where their is setup and advancement and then they unleash the Spawn goodness we know and love so I think we'll see Tremor in action soon enough, but its just disappointing that we didn't see that this issue when we were essentially promised that last issue. So in the end I just view this as a decent issue and nothing more and nothing less. Looking forward to next issue where we'll hopefully learn a good deal about The Agent, his role, and how that affects Jim's past involvement with The Project.
As a special note, their are 3 covers for this issue. The regular Tremor/Spawn one, a black & white variant, and the Syzmon Tremor/Spawn cover that was originally going to be used for issue 210 of which that one only had a printing of 400 and no more than that. Haven't had luck finding that one. The Walking Dead cover looks like its going to be used for issue 223.

I picked up the last 3 issues of Spawn-first issues of the title I have read since the 90s...I enjoyed them.
However, is it time to do something BIG, NEW and DRASTIC to this book to bring new readers in?
I realize that #220 was supposed to be a major jumping on point, but it doesn't seem like anyone is really reading this title these days. Image is really picking up steam again and actually challenging the big 2. There is so much talk of creator rights these days and we've seen some guys leave the bigger publishers recently in favor of creator owned work-its like the early 90s all over again. I doubt Spawn will ever sell as many issues as The Walking Dead, but it would be cool if this was one of their top selling books again.
I know Todd has let others write his characters over the years, but he also has a reputation as a control freak (which is respectable in a way). Maybe its time to let some of the younger guys at Image run wild with this book? Thoughts?
I don't read his book anymore but I skim through some of it here and there. The death of Al Simmons really turned me off and I got bored of Jim pretty quick, or at least the way the story was being told. That said, I think it's Todd's choice to do as he wants with the book and it's clear that while Spawn may not be as high as it used to be, he still has a core readership that are enjoying the book and some who have been jumping in with the new turn and are digging it. It's his book and it's his story that he wants to tell and given it's his creation, I'm all for him doing as he wants with it. It's just not a book for me anymore.

Totally. It's kind of like how Larsen has been doing Savage Dragon his own way for decades and will until he dies probably. That's awesome. In Spawn's case, the book had a lot of huge writers on it in at various points in the 90s (Moore, Morrison, Gaiman, Sim, Bendis, Miller) while Todd was on art or in control or whatever. I realize that most of the big name guys are locked down in exclusives at Marvel or DC today, but it would be cool if various guys at Image got to take a crack at it and see what happens.
I've been enjoying the last few issues of Spawn...just got back into Spawn comics recently.
I was curious, does anyone know how long those homage covers are going to last? I think they are cool as hell. Did Todd say when he was going to stop making them?
I know Todd said hed be doing covers for the rest of 2012. I assume thats when the homages will end to.
Personally id love Todd to stay on with original cover designs into 2013 but im not sure if thatll happen.
As far as we know.
If iirc the press release just said something like "Spawn creator Todd McFarlane to provide special homage covers for Spawns 20th Anniversary. And Todd confirmed it would be from the 20th Anniversary issue til the end of the year.
Personally id be fine with Kudranski doing covers again. Though Todds work does something for the nostalgia freak in me :)
The preview for Spawn 223 is up on Todd's facebook page and it looks quite good. Richard and Spawn teaming up to get answers from The Agent such as his role in The Project, so I do look forward to some revelations in this issue.
Spawn 223 Preview
Spawn 223 will be out Wednesday, September 5th.
The covers are really enjoyable, but completely misleading about the books art which is a bummer if the cover hooked you into buying it.
