Tech Question...iPod info!

Hello all...

i am not up to date techwise...and i felt comfortable asking the question in here....help if You want!

i got an iPod a year ago from a friend....i am wanting to sell the much of my CD collection. i heard that You can transfer songs from CD to Your iPod. If so...i'd like to transfer much of this music to this iPod. Keep in mind...i have never even burned a CD.

My question is...where do i start? Or is there a website that can offer basic step-by-step directives?

1. Download and install iTunes.
2. Put a CD in the CD drive.
3. Click "yes" when a pop-up window asks if you want to import the CD to iTunes/your library.
4. Plug in your iPod.
5. When the iPod shows up in the menu on the left of iTunes click it and then go to the Music tab and hit the sync button.


Instructions that are more detailed can be found where you install iTunes and on iTunes itself.

It's not recommended you throw out your CD's.

If your iPod fails (and, by virtue of being an electronic device, it will at some point) you'll lose all your music.

Also, dont lose your iPod...

Or, more importantly, when your computer's hard drive fails, you'll want a back-up of all your music. I currently have all of my mp3s (or iTune equivalent music files) saved to my external hard drive, but I may either burn all my music files to some DVDs or eventually get 2nd/backup external hard drive.
