I gotta say, the *really* frustrating thing is that there were next to no delays for the first 2-3 issues of both ExoGenetic & Xenogenesis.
The pill would've been a lot easier to swallow had there been no hope for decent release dates to begin with. At some point, it just became: 'Huh. AXM is out. Might as well not remove it from my pull list, eh.'
Astonishing X-Men has definitely been my favorite x-book in recent years, under both Whedon and Ellis.
Of course it has its flaws. The delays were a real nuisance, and I wasn't too crazy about plots like the Breakworld or some of Ellis's overwhealming sci-fi concepts. But overall the stories have been entertaining and the character work has been pretty good.
Astonishing under Ellis sucked. He had some interesting ideas, but they were too scattered amid repetitive character cliches and anticlimactic plotlines. Basically, he wrote every X-man with their caricature personality, and his plots were too similar and not worthy of the amount of issues they took up. Granted, I should say that I stopped reading after Xenogenesis #1, because I couldn't stomach it anymore.
Joss axm, grants new x-men and I would put on that list mike careys x-men.
Fractions also done a lot. But not on the same level as those three have. But joss and grant didn't have to deal withb cross overs or any of that stuff
Morrison/Quitely and Whedon/Cassaday did the best X-Men comics of the last 10+ years, IMO.
The only creative team currently that I could see catching up with them would be Carey/Bachalo, if only they had the editorial push needed!

I've only read Astonishing under Ellis, so I might be a bit biased when I say this, but Astonishing was leaps and bounds ahead of the other X-books that came out around the same time. Of course there are some exceptions. But for the most part, I agree with the OP.
Talkback threads are filled with whiney rants. Only 2 sorts really respond in them anyway, complaining babies who'd find any reason to cry, and cheapskates looking for spoilers - PatchWorks

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
i would say careys been the most consent writer in the last ten years and also have been on for almost the longest,
I would put peter david in there but his x-factor series almost got the cut in the beginning and that secret invasion she hulk cross over was god awful
