    Default Deadpool - some thoughts

Registered just to talk a little about one of my favourite characters Deadpool, since i just got a heap of back issues.

I think Deadpool started off brilliantly in the ongoing series then steadily declined after a few different writers took over.

I love Kelly and McGuiness' run, it was just perfect. Kelly really understood he character and the madness of it all, he made Deadpool a likeable sociapath. Coupled with McGuiness' pencils with the clean lines and comical tone made the series a whole lot of fun. How could you forget the Amazing Spiderman issue

Then Kelly's run ended and Priest (from Black Panther i think) took over. I thought ok, Deadpool is very much toned down, a lot less of the ADD but i still feel him. Pencils were ok but i liked Mcguiness' style better (im a Joe Mad fan so i guess im biased). I kept thinking Kelly would have done great things with the Thom Cruz schtick. Overall it was ok but far from Kelly's work.

Then Palmiotti/Chadwick took over...what can i say, i hate it! He's reverted back to his sociapthic self but worse hes NOT funny, he has NO character at all. Just flick through the pages and what few yellow speech bubbles there are filled with "yes", "no", "ok" type responses. Just terrible. At the same time he all of a sudden develops some sort of romantic interest in the female lead. And this is supposed to be believable after what has happened. Its also crudely drawn to boot.

Now did these writers just all of a sudden forget he had saved the universe, discovered hes not really Wade and has meant to have gone through a minor character change (hes no superhero, not yet but hes taken a few steps). I've read up to issue 48 (end of the cruel summer story arc) and i dont feel like theres a point anymore. Hes not even Deadpool.

Currently reading through Cable and Deadpool and its top quality stuff!

Shame Cable and Deadpool is ending soon. It was such a stellar book.

It's also a shame Deadpool doesn't appear in Messiah Complex. Even though it wouldn't fit, a cameo or a message to Cable would be cool :)

It picks up again, issue 61 is really great and then once Gail Simone takes over at issue 65 things are great again...

Cable & Deadpool is a very good run. Fabian has done a great job for 48 issues so far -- not a bad issue in the bunch. (A couple of mediocre ones, maybe...)

Mike Carey has said that Deadpool changes the tone too much, so he didn't want to use him.

But it would be a kick to see Carey, Brubaker, and Kyle/Yost write him. PAD would tear it up if Deadpool were to appear in X-Factor. (All IMHO)

I thought most of Simone's stuff was crap, myself. It usually takes most DP writers a couple issues to get into it. She had like two issues that didn't suck, with the Rhino stuff, then they killed Wade off and renamed the book. And I never liked Agent X. Except maybe when Wade was spelling things in his entrails, and then he got all fat. That was good.

The Simone stuff was bad?!? I think she gets a rather bad rap with the fans for what she did on Agent X, but that really was NOT a Deadpool title. So on that level, how could it deliver?!?

I really think it's time to launch a new Agency X title. With Deadpool and Bob AND WEASEL! Deadpool needs to be hired and sent on assignments. And, well, be Deadpool!

I'd rather do what the book sort of evolved into at the end, Deadpool and...

I'm just saying, I don't think the Agency X title is a winner. Even then, it just sounded pandering beyond pandering. And in today's book market, it does help to have a preexisting title. Otherwise, I'd have suggested Marvel Two in One Featuring Deadpool.

I pretty much agree with everything stated above. I also really enjoyed the 2 limited series they had before the on-going started. You should pick those up if you haven't already. I am very worried about the future of the character.

Deadpool belongs in X-Force. Okay, he's not a mutant but he does have a healing factor and enhanced strength granted to him by means of the Weapon X program and a history with Wolverine. The conflict between 'Pool and Wolvie could be the thing that keeps the new X-Force afloat in a sea of X-related crap, just my opinion!

    Cool

Well at least Deadpool will continue going on since he's getting his own series, same with Cable!
