Registered just to talk a little about one of my favourite characters Deadpool, since i just got a heap of back issues.
I think Deadpool started off brilliantly in the ongoing series then steadily declined after a few different writers took over.
I love Kelly and McGuiness' run, it was just perfect. Kelly really understood he character and the madness of it all, he made Deadpool a likeable sociapath. Coupled with McGuiness' pencils with the clean lines and comical tone made the series a whole lot of fun. How could you forget the Amazing Spiderman issue
Then Kelly's run ended and Priest (from Black Panther i think) took over. I thought ok, Deadpool is very much toned down, a lot less of the ADD but i still feel him. Pencils were ok but i liked Mcguiness' style better (im a Joe Mad fan so i guess im biased). I kept thinking Kelly would have done great things with the Thom Cruz schtick. Overall it was ok but far from Kelly's work.
Then Palmiotti/Chadwick took over...what can i say, i hate it! He's reverted back to his sociapthic self but worse hes NOT funny, he has NO character at all. Just flick through the pages and what few yellow speech bubbles there are filled with "yes", "no", "ok" type responses. Just terrible. At the same time he all of a sudden develops some sort of romantic interest in the female lead. And this is supposed to be believable after what has happened. Its also crudely drawn to boot.
Now did these writers just all of a sudden forget he had saved the universe, discovered hes not really Wade and has meant to have gone through a minor character change (hes no superhero, not yet but hes taken a few steps). I've read up to issue 48 (end of the cruel summer story arc) and i dont feel like theres a point anymore. Hes not even Deadpool.
Currently reading through Cable and Deadpool and its top quality stuff!
